View Full Version : Longest Lasting Tires

Hey everyone,

I am eating through tires pretty fast and have observed that the very cheap tires die fast.

Most of my tires do not wear out gradually. They look like they get supper gummy and fall apart in patches.

I have tried the Federal 595 and have noticed that they grip much better and last longer than the some of the cheaper tires.

The grip from the Federals is good enough, is there anything out there that will last longer.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to mention what you are doing (drift or grip), and what your current alignment settings are.

Nexen N3000...The tread-wear is 340

Where as the federal the tread-wear is 240

the higher the treadwear the less grip you have and the longer the tyre will last

of couse cheap tires will wear out poorly espacialy if u try to race on them which they were not made for...when i had a poor suspension set up i compensated for some of the lag by using really good tires...what are u doing drift or grip?

I think he might do rally and drift considering what's in his sig. I don't know if that's truthful or not though :\

There's some cheap Federal Formza (sp?) tires that have a treadwear of 420 or 460.. something like that.. only cost about $30/ tire new. lol. Might have been a sale at super autobacs at the time (now called autotoys).

tread-wear rating is only comparable to same brand tires, and lower tread-wear rating does not mean more grip or vice versa. there are factors like tread depth, pattern, compound, sidewalls/belts and size.

I have seen nittos with 440 tread wear, those things were like rocks lol

Thanks for the replies.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I am asking about tires for drift. I always assume everyone here is into drifting and forget about grip.

My rear alignment is about one degree negative (has been ok for Adams, I run 1/4 degree more on driver side there). Toe is about an 1/8" in. Stock arms that have been hacked and extended.

Anyway, appreciate the feedback and keep it coming. I am trying to stock up on tires for Horse Thief Mile this weekend.

Is there a particular reason why you have that amount of toe?

You should not eat tires, they will make you sick in your tummy.

You should try the Wanli S1088. Good tread life and grippy. The Nexen will last forever, but it's kind of on the slippery side.

I have ran the Nexen N3000 and they last super long....on a pair of rear I did 6 practice laps, and 8 comp lap at Seattle and they lasted all the way to the end....and still had about 30% life left and this was in my competition car. The grip is not an issue here as long as you know how to setup your suspension to where the tires works best with your driving style. Tread-wear is just a number that the tire people rate tires on their test course.

Correct and you can only compare it to the same manufacture.

So all those ratings (UTQG) do not cross over, say you compare the michelin and goodyear, it can not be used as a legit way to measure.

They only work in same manufactures lines.

THANK YOU!! Most people don't know or understand this. You can't compare 240 treadwear of a federal with a 400 treadwear of a Michelin.

Why do you have such a CRAZY alignment setting. It's not drifting that is killing your tires, is that crazy toe setting.

What alignment are you guys setting? I have searched and found that in the rear for drift people are running 0-2 degrees of negative camber. People are running very different toe settings. Some are toe out a bit and some toe in as much as what I am running, 1/8". I like stability in the rear of my car, but I will try to run 0 toe.

Interesting to hear that Nexens last a while, I will try them out.

Thanks again for the input!

I don't know if you can get them in the size you need, but triangles were sick. I drove all day at Irwindale on the bank for 12 runs and had enough to burn through all night at Adams later that week. And they have good smoke too.

Yes I would have to say Triangles tires are the shit too. They lasted me all day at Irwindale and are still looking really damn good... Good smoke too... even on my KA

I've been using Kumho MX's on my 240.
Camber is -2 all around
Toe is 0 front, 1/16" in rear.

Used these tires for the past 2 1/2 yrs & 20k mi.
Use the car as the occasional daily and done about a dozen autoX events.
Surprisingly, there is still decent tread.

I don't recommend Dunlop z1's for tire wear.
Those wear out pretty quick.
Had to replace a set on my FA civic si after 3 autoX events,
and another set lasted around 11k mi on my evo.
great tires and not too expensive, but they wear out pretty quick.
