Mac-10 FTW.

You can cap anything.

And the word is "bled."

Correct.

Kinda nice I guess, when my water pump seized n snapped the belt, I noticed I had no PS, and was able to pull over and shut off the engine before it overheated.

With the size of the steering linkage, your best bet is to score a spare rack from the junkyard, Open it up, remove the seals, pack it full of amsoil grease, weld the holes shut to prevent moisture.

Looping/breathing the steering rack still is fighting against the seals. Capping it is just fighting the seals and the fluid pressure.

I havent drained 90% of the fluid out of the rack and used it that way, too afraid of it drying out. However my Civic has maybe 10-20% fluid in the rack and is still running strong for 5 years now.

IIRC, the PS and Water pump are on the same belt on teh KA24DE but that is not the case with the KA24E

There is no easy way.

Only real way is to remove the rack, remove the piston seal, adn lube it up with synthetic grease.
