Wassup guys, I'm more of a lurker on this forum, but I thought I might change that and start a thread showing you all my project in progress.
Currently building a 93 S13 hatch with full (front/rear) S15 conversion.
I know conversions are not always appreciated by all, but I thought there may be a few of you out there who might like whats in the works.
The metal fenders used for the rear wide-body were cut off from a Porsche 944 and we used the lines on the top of the fender to go with the S15 tails. The new fenders are significantly wider than stock, but are not by any means gaudy and in my opinion flow well with the lines of the car.
Anyway, enough of the introduction speech... here are a few progress pics: (sorry for the shitty quality on some of them)

I feel the same way. Choosing the paint is really difficult. I really don't want a loud/flashy color because I think it will take away from the bodywork. The car will be unique enough as it is so I don't need flash paint for the car.

There are a few colors i have in mind... but very difficult to choose.
I am going to leave the apillars/roof gloss black though.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback!

I think it would look better on a S13 IMO...you can create the lines to flow better than a S14. Also I think the same design team for the S13, created the S15 (not the S14)...so you can see some similarities in terms of dimensions.

Good work on the rear fenders I never seen that before and so far nobody in the states (that I know of) has done it right.

I vote for pearl white or a silver with some pearl in it.

What's the deal with the S14 in the background?

I agree with you SimpleS14... i think the diagonal lines of the S15 and S13 hatch are very similar... i think the profile of the S14 is a lot more horizonal in relation to the S15 and the S13. I think you can mainly find this by looking at the bottom of the rear windows.

Rear quarter panel lines underneath the window are very similar.
This is one of the reasons why I'm leaving the apillars and roof black on mine.

I'm not asking for people to choose the color for me, i'm just asking for some ideas. :) I have a few ideas in mind, but the more input i receive the more options I have to make my decision.

For those who are questioning the reasons for the build and the functionality of the car...I don't really see the point in building a car just to sit in a garage all week...that's just a waste of money imo. An expensive, good looking peice of metal that has no function really isn't a car at all. I'm sure everyone in here agrees with me on this. Will I show this car? Yes, but I am building this for me to use and enjoy like the rest of you. ;)

Nice work so far, what are the plans for the recessed body line where the black tape was originaly seeing that the rear fenders lack said line? Also please tell me that your shaving and filling the third brake light, it just woudn't be right with that oh so clean look you've got going on the rear conversion.

Way ahead of ya ;)

A section of the rear hatch is actually going to be removed and replaced with new sheet metal. The third brake light will be scraped since it's located on the metal that is going to be removed. The new hatch will also include the lines associated with the S15 trunk lid.

As for the recessed lines on the body where the black tape is located, they too are being filled/removed.

After the fenders are finished, the hatch is going to be modified to complete the look.

Me personally, id rock the JDM S15 Spec-R Midnight Blue on this...just to rock the real shiet. Ive seen it on a S14.5 conversion and it looked fuckin ill with the JDM S15 HID headlights.

I gotta give you mad props tho for doin this the real way...all metal, hopefully no bondo or any kind of body filler *K a lil bit just to smooth shiet out* Only thing is, if your doing metal work on the rears, you might as well go for metal front fenders. Stitch together a stock S15 fender and S13 fenders. Its been done before and if your ever planning on tracking this, that would make it worth it. Fiberglass fenders/bumpers dont like cones *or anything hard for that matter*

status:one
11-21-2006, 08:18 PM
Thanks guys... really appreciate it.
Yeah, there won't be any bondo to "smooth it out." I want this to be as close to factory built as possible (metal).
Don't get me wrong though... i have nothing against fiberglass overfenders, i think they look great... but with the rear conversion i went for i decided that all metal was the way to go. (Although it takes soooooooooo long).

Man I totally agree about the S13 -> S15 stuff. A friend of mine is doing a (shotty) s15 front end conversion on his S14 and talks about how it doesn't look right on a S13. IMO the S15 front looks almost as bad on an S14 as it does on a S13 coupe. The lines just don't flow right...

With those wheels, I think a dark blood red colour is calling out to you...

I think that would look beautiful. Maybe a dark (black or something) hood, roof, hatch with a dark candy red or something. I agree that some bright ass orange or something would be hideous, but something completely dark like black wouldn't do the lines justice on this vehicle. The shadows would get lost in the color with something too dark...

Conversion looking very good Shiatsu, keep up the good work. i remember a while back, i think it was super street magazine or import tuner magazines, featured a front and rear converted 240. it looked like shit for the lines of the body styling of the car did not match the lines of an s15 at all. yours on the other hand looks very legitimate and good luck with the project.

edit: found the car which i was talking about earlier

The car is looking hawt!!! What turbo are you running? and is that a piece of dick ssac turbo manifold? I can tell just by how far the turbo is away from the head. You might run into problems with the turbine housing hitting your brake master! i know i did! you might want to ditch it before it gives you headaches! good luck!

Don't think the job was the best, doesn't follow the S15 lines at all.
http://www.jojopang.net/albums/cars/IMG_4827.jpg

Hopefully my S14.5 try will be bettwer than this seeing that I have got a rear panel with half the trunk setup so that I follow the lines all the way to my S15 front fenders, metal work will be done to the S14 doors to continue the lines to the front fenders and complete the S15 look. I have the back cut, S15 fenders, that I have lined up with the S14 and the back section just needs the top area where the pillars bolt on to be modified and use the S14 fender area for the pillars, the front of the fender too will need some extending so some metal work is done but I will still beable to keep the S15 line on the fender to use as a reference to run from the back to the front. Hopefully all goes well.

illvialuver
08-02-2007, 06:15 AM
you know, the work with the rear is impressive, a lot of people run s15 fronts, and its okay for me but not for me, but ive only seen a few try the s15 rear and succeed, i dontknwo why i never thought of the 944 rear fenders, i also thought about starion rear fenders. anyway if you were doing all the work yourself, i think you would be giving gavster's build up a run for its money, but than you would have to throw in a rb26. either way your car is lookin sweet and i liek your 14 too.

Sideskirts and rear bumper are being modified to fit the wider metal fenders. A lot of fabrication had to be made around the wheel arch to ensure the the car keeps the original wheel arch height while still accommodating the Porsche fenders. The hatch will be modified next week for the tail lights which will be a whole other story. The hatch will still keep the factory latch and seal.
I sold the Volks, I plan to throw my SSRs on from my s14. I'll post up some more pics when there has been some more progress.

Between importing, registering, and building the car there is probably more than $75K in it. I know it will never get near that when I sell it but it certainly shows well for my shop. Our GTR will be done this summer and it will take over and I'll get rid of the Silvia. They are both just too much of a hassle for what they're worth though.

You don't even need to do that. I've got a 99 Spec R that is registered as a Nissan Silvia with no VIN swap and only paid 30K for it stock and registered. Its all a matter of knowing who to get to do the work.

as far as the build up goes, i cant wait to see the finished product.

I'm not sure how much grief Cali would give on the title but its not registered as a just a kit car and has a full 17 digit VIN. I left the legalization to the lawyers, I just build them. As for the build up its basically done except for a new wiper motor so I can drive in the rain again. I'll post up a new thread about it so I don't hijack any more of this thread, there is enough badassedness in this thread with the OP's car.

Sorry guys.. no updates as of right now... been working on the S14 a lot lately... the S13 is more of a side project...and taking time with it... the only update I have is I put the SSR D5Rs on the S13 since I got new wheels for the s14. This project is moving a little slower than expected being almost 2.5 years now.. but I expect to finish it within a few months.

You don't even need to do that. I've got a 99 Spec R that is registered as a Nissan Silvia with no VIN swap and only paid 30K for it stock and registered. Its all a matter of knowing who to get to do the work.

Ah you sir are basically still doing something completely illegal. Even if your doing it as a kit car. Unless you have crash tested a S15 and have received complete D.O.T. approval, plus having EPA approval, your car is still illegal regardless of you having a registration and plates. We have been down this road several times on this forum and your spouting more of the usual bullshit.
Knowing people who are willing to break the law and register your car illegally, still does not change the fact that they and you are committing a Federal crime. Any state Highway Patrol worth a damn can still pull you over impound your car and have it crushed.

Oh and your post is completely off topic from the thread. The thread is about Shiatsu's build not about if you can legally bring a S15 into the U.S.

Yes, i would have to agree

the orange s13.5 pushed his tails inwards, screwed up the bodylines completely.

your car rocks MOAR PIXORZZZ!

impressive, but how many hours did it take? looks kick ass, maybe you should go with black to show off the body work.

Thanks... I think black would work well too... maybe with some added pearls. Still undecided.

I'll try and get some more pics soon. The hatch is currently being modifed for the tails... all metal.. no fiberglass bullshit.

Hey mate. Always wanted to see a fastback s15!
it should turn out hot with those rear quarters like that!
are you going to use a s15 boot lid and weld it onto the hatch so you can use s15 rear bumpers?
have you done it so the rear lights can be removed?
or is it going to be permanatley fixed?

post some pictures up!
Ohh, and i think go a s15 yellow, white, pewter or a black.

laters.

is there any finished pics of this!!!! i been waiting for sooooooooo long!!!

i have been watching this topic for almost a year, i signed up just to see if i could get this thread active so he'd post.
haha
no luck.

hope he finishes it.,seems like no one ever does.

over in aus, we had a guy who made an s15 with r33 gtr running gear, OS GIKEN RB30, full custom fab, wide body, interior had molds made, and a carbon interior was made, he had an engineer the whole time, to ensure it could be roadworthy, and all that was left was to put it back together.
all this after 2 years, and then he needed the money sold it in pieces.

:(

I've also wondered if that's possible....

maybe you could work the door skins of the s15 onto the s13 door? I think you might have to cut the latching frame portion out and rework it?

yeah i'm dying to see this car in completion!

I think we can safely say this is dead?

it's not dead. i believe status:one is taking his sweet time on this project the last time i read through this thread. i know you guy's are anxious but lets let the OP bump this thread when it's finished.

uhm s15 doors wont work.
as he would have to match the rear fenders up, and he has already custom made them(even tho they look near exact replicas)
so i dont think that idea will work unless he does alot of filler work?

im gonna PM him. LOL

this is the only reason i signed up on this particular forum.

It would be nice if these doors could be extended, meaning, for widebodies, front fender/rear, to have doors extended/widened to widen whole car, possibilities are there if we had enough interest no doubt.

This is really cool
