Best clutch?
Hey guess I got an s13 hb with a twin came ka24de running the following mods: Bolt on catback exhaust, cold air intake, coils, rucas, tensions rods, welded diff, 1 piece driveshaft. It's my daily drifter so it will be seeing the skid pad. Whats the best streetable clutch? I hear spec stage 2 and Competition white bunny clutch are good not looking to spend more than 400. Also do I need a new flywheel too?

I am running the Spec stage 2 in my hatch right now with the same engine mods. It has a nice crisp engagement with a stiffer than stock pedal feel. It chatters sometimes but only if you don't give it enough gas. When the stage 2 finally dies I will be replacing it with the Spec Stage 2+...
Edit* mines also on the stock flywheel but I will be upgrading to a new flywheel when I get a new clutch.. |

pretty much any stage sprung clutch is going to be streetable. The pucked clutches will grab better then full face, but they wear a bit faster. They tend to chatter more, but honestly i daily drove on a spec stage 3 4puck and never regretted it. I would go with something that you can grow into. Do you plan on turbocharging the car in the near future? If so i would go for something that can handle the upgraded torque that you will have. For the money you are probably best going with a comp clutch they run a little cheaper then the spec or ACT for the same or more clamping capability. We have been running them for the last few seasons in a few of the cars we sponsor and they have held up great. As for the flywheel you can leave it stock, just make sure you have it resurfaced before installing the new clutch. Check our sale thread in the vendors section we are running a sale on clutches this month!

I would say get a sprung 6 puck setup. stage 3 or so would be drivable, and would stand up over time. It also leave you room to grow in case your financial situation changed for the better. Plus price is about the same on a stage 2 and 3. Pm me and i can give you price on a couple diff setups. Jon

It's all opinion based... There is no "best clutch", it's whatever one individual likes and promotes. Get something YOU can afford, meets your goals and YOU can live with, for whatever you use your car for.
Best clutch manufactures, now that's a whole different discussion, but most likely you can't afford them.

There are definitely going to be opinions about what is best; and I will share mine. You want to match your clutch to how much power/torque you have or plan to have- streetability is relative to that. With the mods you listed above on the stock tune, you are maybe putting down about 170-175ft/lbs torque. If you did nothing more than DD the car, an OEM replacement would be the best bang for the buck. However, you want to slide it. No worries- just get a clutch within your budget that will hold a bit more ft/lbs torque than you plan to throw at it to make up for the extra abuse of drifting. Since your finances are tight, and you were very honest about not wanting to spend the $$$$ to go for bigger power, I recommend a clutch that will hold 200-225 ft/lbs. In otherwords, any "stage 1" would suit you nicely and leave you a little room to grow. You don't need a flywheel; just get yours turned before putting the new clutch in. Again, all brands have pros & cons based on people's personal experience; so don't get sucked into that game... If you were building for 400+hp where the prices of clutches start to approach the bluebook value of the car, THEN start asking which brand is best
