I was thinking of reupholstering my car with some new colors. First off what fabric is the rear seats made of and has anyone done this before? I was thinking of doing it black on the outside and red for the buckets. Just the rear seats. I don't want vinyl or leather just cloth. Something like this:

You know I've done several searches for interior upgrades for the cloth in our cars and have never come up w/useful info...ie cost, types of fabric or any thing. I love to redo my s13 back seats and s14 front seats in all black, with the same material that the s14 seats have but, short of going to an upholstery shop(which would make way too much sense), I cant find anything...maybe someone can chime in on this..btw do you have a bigger pic of the one above?

If you are upholstering seats, I suggest you just take it to an upholstery shop. Most of you won't have the necessary tools (commercial sewing machines, etc) or expertise (I sure as hell don't) to reupholster a seat, etc.

If it's like door panels, shift boots, etc, that's easy enough to do by yourself, but the actual seats and whatnot is a lot more technical and probably more of an undertaking than most would want to bear.

Just go to a fabric store and ask questions. Whenever I hit it up, the old ladies always love to help.

yea there are plenty of books on this at my local barnes and nobel, so you might want to check those out, they are in the transportation sections. they actually give u detailed steps to follow to redo your seats and such.

Awesome that's some great ideas. I really don't want to spend the money for a pro to do the work and I'm sure i can find the tools and do some of the work like to reattach the fabric onto the seats with those metal hook things on line. But i think i might have to find someone to cut and sew all the pieces together. And to supply the fabric. I just wish it was easier. Also sorry i just found that picture on yahoo.com for an example.

I'm sure you'd be surprised if you went and priced it out. I know here in Socal at least there are a lot of upholstery shops that would probably be very affordable. The cost may outweigh your capability and effort that you need to put in if you were to do it yourself.

Interior is one of those things that if you half ass, it really shows....like seams busting apart, uneven stitches, etc.
