wheels off,on=steering wheel shaking
i took off my wheels the other day to clean them up.
one by one. but after putting them back on my steering wheel is now shaking between 50 60 mph. i tightend them up again and wheel is shaking. any ideas? wheels are balanced. |

Check tire pressure and make sure you tighten them correctly. Loosely tightened then full tight after on floor. Then tighten up again after a few miles. Also maybe you lost a wheel weight?

I used to have this problem all the time when I had my E46. Take the wheels off, clean them, put them back on and it vibrates. Every time was because the wheel hadn't seated right. It was as simple as jacking the car up, loosening the lug nuts on the wheel in question and then tightening them back down once the wheel was aligned.
^ I knocked a wheel weight off when I was cleaning once. Not sure if this could've happened to the OP, but it isn't unlikely. |

Who would actually buy plastic rings? If you're not using conical lug nuts and/or you're not paying attention to how you properly torque the wheels down in the star pattern...then rings would help in that situation. It's the same reason spacers are hubcentric.
