if you go to Jiffy lube for oil changes, I really feel sorry for you.

i hear of people taking their time n strength to pry a tight oil filter off from the snug area unter the intake manifold, so i thought it would help to give some advice on taking an oil filter off less than 30 seconds. |

um.. get the oil filter stocket with a 3/4 drive from autozone. Works great for me.
I need to change my oil tomorrow. I'm going to put a K&N oil filter into a fram box and get charged the fram price at autozone

The oil filter socket works if the oil filter you have is a perfectly standard size.
The oil filter that came on my Protege was just slightly smaller than spec, so oil filter sockets would just slip. I couldn't hammer a smaller one on because they don't make smaller oil filters than that! |

theres an autozone run by dicks in my area, and i feel no problem taking the k&n filter and putting it in the box of a valuewhatever filter. why? 15$ filter for like 2.37 or so (i get the big one since i relocated) and i get a warm feeling screwing them. other than that id never use anything but a k&n, mobile1, or OLD stp filter. stp does NOT make the filters they used to at time of review and now are barely above the low par of fram. Fram makes a very poorly constructed cardboard based filter that does not handle the high pressure needs of racing well. the oiling system accounts for most of wear related damage, dont skimp there. mobil1 oil only for my baby too! read reviews and check stuff out yourself... also im gonna jump in with the only snug down your oil filter comment. dont forget to put oil on the o ring and fill the filter with oil before you put the new one on too.

Just a thought but do you guys put oil on the rubber seal around the filter? I have never had a problem by doing it this way.

i dont take my car to jiffy lube, im an assistant manager there. people complain that we sometimes tighten them too much, but the majority of them come back to us anyway, so its not a problem. the tightest filters are from the factory, and then from the dealership behind that. original filters are always the hardest to get off.

very knowledgable guy...he does oil test analysists for many of the members on maxima.org, and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to filters (he's done a lot of hands on research and testing) it applies to VQ engines but it's still worth a read. there's a whole forum on oil alone btw fram sucks |

I use OEM Nissan filters. Now to say which one, I don't remember. Gonna double check the part number. Always worked well for me.

I did the screwdriver thing once, and then my uncle (big big racer from indiana, real well known and respected in the circle track crowd) taught me the sandpaper trick.

i've been using Mobil1 for a while, but i got an OEM one last time.
It's SLIGHTLY cheaper, so i figure it's probably going to be worth it.
