NPT or Probe Type thermoswitch (fan controller)
My question is which would be the better of the two?
My current set up MISHIMOTO SR radiator with dual e-fans/shroud. ( FANS on a switch ) I have an after market temp. gauge (PBM EVDM) I was wondering if I were to get the probe style controller I can simply adjust the knob to kick the fans on when the desired temp shows up on my gauge. Correct? Only reason is that I have the upper rad house with switch adapter already installed ( cut the upper hose in half and connected the temp adapter ) if i were to get the NPT controller unit i would have to tap threads to support NPT sensor (in assuming the upper water neck would be ideal) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I never was a fan of the probe type, pun intended dad jokes.
I use a controller from Summit, cant think of brand too lazy to google some generic fan controller..but your right it takes an additional sensor tapped into cooling system. you can adjust it and see when fans come on and what your temp gauge says, then tweak it from there.

I use both a thermal switch switch with a manual override AND a probe type. If one fail, as it happened already (sensor did not but the GND wire went loose on the switch. I could still overrride it but it was a pain), the fans can still run.

I mean 2 is better than 1 but from a stand point the fan controller is calibrated with said sensor whether probe/NPT. Over ride switch for sure is needed in case of fan controller failure. If anything i will use my temp coming from upper rad hose since that’s most accurate and I’ll probe the rad and use that to control fans (based off the temp on my EVDM) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
