SR20 or RB20?

Im an 18 year old kid getting ready to buy a 240 and get into drifting. I don't have the knowledge, tools, or friends/family that know how to do a swap so I'm just gonna find one that has already been swapped. From all of the research I've done I know that the SR is a better choice than the RB20 (Stronger engine, easier swap, more aftermarket support, etc.) but so far the few 240's with sr's in my price range and area that I've looked at haven't looked very promising. I did find a super clean rb20 but from everything I've heard I'm deathly terrified to get it. Whatever I end up getting I don't plan on working up past 300hp. I want it to be a reliable DD too and i don't think ill need much more if even that much power to drift right?. Sooooooooo should I go with the rb or wait to find a nice sr20 or even just attempt a swap? And Yes I know I'm about as big a noob as it gets but I've got nothing but time on my hands to learn. If theres any info that I seem misinformed on or something you can add feel free to do it. Thanks!

I have highlited a few reasons on why you should not buy a 240.

you have no knowledge of cars and want reliablity you should get a Honda

Considering your experience best I can think of at the moment is just buy a clean stock 240sx and just do the basic mod like suspension, brakes, LSD. This will be enough to learn the basic and actually appreciate driving. When your ready for the next level then consider power after. This route personally will be easier to maintain and fairly reliable. Picking up somebody else modded cars sometimes ends up with you just inheriting their issues with the car. GL!

Rb series motors came from skylines
sr motors came out of a 240

Skylines are built for nissan ti race with
240 were designed for poor guys to play with

Now with that said, what motor did you say was stronger??? The only reason why ppl say sr over rb20, is cuz there is a 25 and 26. Trust me, if there was an sr22 or 24, there wouldnt be a single sr20 in a car.

I have an sr24 in my car, and there are a few things wrong with your post.

If you dont know how to work on a car you dont need a modded one, you dont need to race or drift, and you really dont need your race car to double as your dd. Buy a stock engined 240 to drift with, keep your dd and learn along the way.

Get a cheap DD, and get a 240sx in 4 or 5 years, when you know how to drive, have money, and when your insurer will not murder your wallet.

RB20 is totally un-necessary to put in your future car. SR20s have much more part support in U.S "just in case".

Besides if I were you, I'd listen to Sileighty_85.

Get a stock 240! When you feel comfortable with your car use the money you saved to swap your engine and upgrade it.

I am killing this thread for the obvious reason of its having taken place every week on average for the last 30 years.
