Best place to order a complete sr20det swap from?
I've searched this up and all I've find a few places, and I've ordered a few motors before. But I just wanted a few people's person opinion on where the best places to buy a sr20 from now? Most of the threads I've searched are a little older I just wanted some current opinions!

I got mine from nagano usa last year. I had to replace a lot of parts on it tho. Igniter, injectors, MAF, pretty much all the sensors. The engine was the only good part. Try to pick a retailer that is close to u, go there and pick it out yourself.

Find a place thats close by to you that you can physically pick an engine from. Fuck buying anything online, most SRs coming from Japan at this point are SHIT ENGINES!!!

They are just 20 year old cores pulled from wrecked cars. But agreed... you are absolutely right about finding a local selling the motor. Either a shop, craigslist or someone on one of the forums. |

Well it's hard to find a place around North Carolina that has motors for sale most of the places that I have found that sell them are around the mid west. I have been looking for some for a while. I have heard good things about tiger japanese and I have ordered form Zerolift before and had very good luck with them.

Canadian importers are notoriously difficult to deal with. Also if its extremely bothersome to track cross border shipments and credit card support is minimal. It becomes very easy for a Canadian retailer to fuck over an American client and you have little recourse. Avoid Tiger JDM, Osaka Motors ect* *unless you live in Canada, then the International thing doesn't apply. Also, like 10 years ago I used to hear good stuff about Venus Auto. |

depending on the part of north carolina you are in it would be worth the drive to come up to manassas VA and go to JEI so you can physically pick your engine. A lot of the guys here in the mid-atlantic have gotten engines from them with great success.

Nowhere. After being the drifter/ fanboy special for 20+ years, they've been mostly picked over. Keeping in mind that you're likely just going to be buying a motor that somebody in Japan didn't want, you're best bet is to buy from someplace within driving distance where you can physically see it before buying.

based on everyone's comments, it sounds like more likely than not you are pretty much buying a complete swap with a motor that will probably need a rebuild.
i used to think this was an easy question. back then there was heavy throttle, phase 2, venusauto, jarco, gdimension, enjuku racing, pandagarage, jhot, etc. now almost no one imports front clips/engines anymore. |

I had pretty much the same experience buying my RB from them, although not to that extent. They sent me the wrong MAF and never replaced it with the correct one even after I called like 3-4 times and them saying they would, so I just said fu** it and got one from the junkyard. After swapping the motor in it started up and ran great for over a year, but hasn't been at full potential the entire time (have since found out it has lower compression on Cyl #6...now it's sitting taken apart in my garage -___-) The ironic part is I promised myself I wasn't going to get a motorset off of eBay...and that's what I did

Back then it was 110-130 yen to the dollar, today it's what, 78 JPY to the USD? That's 30% loss right there if you maintained prices! Worse yet shipping costs are up and the engines people want are now old as shit. In 2003 you bet that S14 SR was only a few years old and low miles! Today it's now sat for 3 years after being flooded out in the Tsunami. Also people are broke asses. A swap from HeavyThrottle was $3,500 for a red top and $4,200 for an S14 IIRC. Today's kids puke blood over $1,750 for a SR. Spoiled bitches. |

SHit, I used to charge $3k for an S13 swap...I used to get an engine set from Venus Auto in Sac for $1300, another $200 in parts and $1500 profit for a weekend job.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the helpful comments. But yeah I was probably gonna go with a S14 SR20 just because it's a little newer and has a chance for having lower miles then the red tops. It sucks cause there is really not many places around here that sell complete motor sets. I got lucky when I bought my Type R swap for my civic and got it maybe with 20k miles on it best running motor ive ever had. I was just hoping that maybe I could get something similar for my 240. But I am in a position to where I can buy back my old sr20 from the guy I sold it to, he said the compression failed in 2 of the cylinders so it would need a rebuild but it had a complete top mount set up with a 6puck act clutch and 550cc injectors and he was asking 1k for the whole thing with a extra 5 speed tranny.

I've thought about it, but when I had the motor it had some kinda problem runnin like it wouldn't ever idle or anything it sucked. That's one reason I really just wanna order one I've been wanting to get a s14 blacktop for a while.

Just throwing this out there, Im sure most of you know the low miles thing was a gimmick. In 2012 most of the people in Japan that are driving 90 era cars, are just like us. Their car is thier DD that they ZY drift gymkana or hardpark. When they decide to junk it the yards cut it for export, actually driving the prices in Japan back up. The percentages of the people who drive them on the weekends or special days are less than 2%. But as long as the engine has been well maintained it doesnt matter.

Yeah, because junkyard motors NEVER have idle issues.
