What do i need and how much will it cost <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
Its gotta be daily driver, its got to be reasonable. I want a car that is just fine to drive around town, and when i hitup a stop light next to a z28 or mustang, I wana know that unless they are modded, i will waste em. (so I am not talking high 12's. I am talking mid-low 12's all day) So if you guys could help me select the parts i need and the price it will cost that would be great (for the sr motor) Thanks! -Eric (Edited by InKonCysTanT at 5:17 pm on Feb. 23, 2002) |

I think that with about 300hp at the wheels you should be able to do that. However, if you want to put the power to the ground expect that you need sticky tires and a LSD. I would go the SR20 route as well, big intercooler and some ecu stuff, either stand alone or something. I don't know that you would need a T4, my friend is making like 500hp with a T3/T4 (pretty sure) on his supra (3liter) If you are only going to drag and don't care about lag then the T4 would work, but I think it's really big for a 2.0 liter with "only" 300hp
but I would budget about $7000 total for mods not including unexpected things like blowing motors etc. Adam |

12"s arent all that hard to reach. You mainly just need to worry about traction and weight. My 89 daytona is turning low twelves with the factory mitsu turbo. you only need about 300hp and plenty of traction. Hehe, its one of the fastest cars at the local strip and its my beeter. Cant wait to get a real car put together

Derek Greaser runs low 12's with an HKS 3037 on a red top SR in a zenki S14. Last dyno sheet I remember he was running 32Xhp to the rears. The fact that he is one of only a handful of 12 second SR's speaks bounds about how "possible" it is. 13’s are fairly common and not that expensive to reach. Shoot for a more attainable goal and then gradually step up. It’s a little more gratifying than dropping $10k setting up the car and then pulling a much slower quarter time than anticipated.

remeber daily driver...
This isnt for drag. This is for me putting around town, and when i DO go to the drags, bump up the psi and let it roar (no one has mentioned nos??) So yah keep that in mind, but thnx so far <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> |

First off, 12's wont happen on 215 tires. Try and run a little more rubber (225f/245r for S13 and 235f/265-275r for S14), not only will it improve traction during acceleration, but lateral grip and braking will also be immensely improved. And too, big fat tires look really slick when viewing the back of the car.;)
For 12's you will need approximately the fallowing items: SR20DET($2500-$7000) New Turbo($900+) New Manifold($100 for DIY log - $1600 custom SS tubular) Intercooler($500+?) Intercooler piping($200) Injectors($500-$1000) Exhaust/3" downpipe($600-$1000) ECU/programmable EFI($500-$2000) Misc.(wastegate/BOV/etc.)($700) Then you have the rest of the car: Suspension($600-$1500) Brakes, Z32($200-$1000) Wheels/tires($2000-$3000) Know that my figures are pretty liberal, and I’m sure a lot of the cost can be cut if you can do your own custom work. The SR bottom end is supposedly good to ~400hp, but no one has had the cajones to test that after dropping $3000+ on getting it over here. Do you have the SR? I would be pretty happy driving a 14 or even a 13 second car around all day. There is that fine line where cheap performance becomes expensive performance, and where fast becomes insanely fast. I would say try and decide exactly where you want to be. 12 second 4 cylinders are completely different beasts and are usually built with the intention to be raced. |

Too many HP with very sticky tires and LSD will probably break the driveshaft.
Check out this guys website.....somewhere on there it says this happened to his 240SX. http://www.back-yard-productions.com/HUGH.htm M |

Well I am not sure about all the stuff you mentioned there.
But if you think about it Most of these people say, JUST drop in an sr motor and your running mid 13's I would think, throw a short shift, a lsd, and some decent street tires (the tires i mentioned before supposedly are the BEST tires in that size as far as traction is concerned) and your running low 13's and high 12's. and this is still at stock boost. I would just think, and boost controller, bam it up to 14psi (if the stock turbo can handle it), and maybe run a light shot of nos, and your easily into the low 12's... With all that stuff you just mentioned I would think your talking near 11's and 10's am I wrong here? -Eric |

Well if you don't want to be as fast on the street then NOS is the way to go. It's illegal here so I am not really planning on pushing that. I am thinking that it might be a little hard to run low 12s with the stock turbo. The 2nd gen Eclipse came with that turbo and I don't think that many of those guys are running 12s with the stock turbo. most upgrade, in fact it is know as the t-too small turbo in those circles. oh they also have 2 liter engines. I might change the turbo right off the bat, depending on what your kit comes with. You will need a front mount intercooler, just changing the intercooler will add horsepower with the same boost because the charge air will be cooler and more dense. Also a bigger turbo will keep the charge air temp down too at the same boost. I think the T/3T4 would be fine. I'm not sure what "chips" are available. You might be able to do everything you want with a S-AFC. but I would run big exhaust (bigger the better for turbos) and nice custom intercooler piping with a nice big front mount, dont get that gay intercooler that has the tubes go back the same way, move your battery and run the air in one side and out the other, right by the intake. An example of the dumb intercooler is on ebay right now
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot....7581179 why anybody would spend the money on this and then have the routing suck is beyond me. look at how far the air has to travel after the turbo. Also, the firehawks seem fine I wouldn't be worried about traction you can run 12s without DOT slicks no problem |

you can run about 350 hp on the stock bottom end of a sr20 with no problem. What you have to worry is fuel delivery. The injector are going to need to be changed out if you want any power and if you're going to be using the ecu from a silvia atleast get a z32 maf or you can just get a standalone system to get rid of all of that.
