ikennrockdis i think i can build thread

Just thought i should finally start my build thread to help me keep track of my progress and of course to hopefully entertain you guys and hear your guys advice and input.

A little self introductory, hi my name is Kenneth, but people call me Kenn. i am 22 years old and i've always been into cars since i can remember. all my older cousins drove hondas and watching the first fast and furious movie, and playing the need for speed games on the pc is what drove my interest. it looked cool lol. having zero to none experience or knowledge i loved drifting the integra type r in the game so i first wanted that car, but i didn't know it was a FWD but then again i've always loved the flip up lights and the 240sx was my next favorite so i went with that.

At the end of my junior year of high school i joined the army (reserves) when i was 17. i left for basic for summer and came back afterwards to finish my senior year of high school. I come from an old school traditional type of asian family. My family gave me an early graduation and congratulation gift and told me that i could choose a car of my liking, of course used cos we not rich and i wanted a project.

Its rare to find a clean or decent one, since i live in a small area and far from places. but one finally came up for sale and impatient as i was i had to get it.

It was love at first site. 9-7-2010

The guy didn't wanna budge on the price so my bro, mom, dad, and grandma all chipped in to get this for me. i am blessed to have such loving family members.

so we bought the car for 4k.

1993 240sx hatchback
about 130k miles on the chassis
stock KA24DE
5spd converted
kenwood deck
dropped on Megan street coilovers
H4 headlight conversion 4kHIDs

the interior was clean, the body was pretty straight, just minor dings here and there. just rust on the inside of the hatch. i am the 4th owner apparently

My dad drove it home that day, my stick shift driving was a little rusty.

With the little income i had from my part time job at a sticker shop, and monthly drills i was able to buy some goodies.

First thing i did with the car was the basic maintenance checks and stuff. did my first oil change in my life, i remember i went and crawled prone position to do the oil change lmao.

Cleaned and degreased the valve cover. changed the spark plugs. the older bro helping me out.

First thing i did was a honda emblem conversion. jking.

I got into a little fender bender. as i was backing out of a parking stall some lady decides to back out of her stall without looking. i just seen a pair of reverse lights turn on and she backed into my quarter panel and i could literally feel her adding some gas even after her car made contact with mines. she said she didn't see me and that my car was too low. dumb bitch.

Unfortunately i was your typical high school kid with a modified car and just wanted to look cool. i wanted to make noise, so i bought my dream exhaust. HKS HI-Power Carbon TI.

Went to the local exhaust shop, and got a straight pipe welded on to my stock headers to the exhaust tip. i wanted it in an angle but they didn't show me the angle. it came out crooked.

Prom was coming up so i wanted to look cool lol. not so cool when i look back at it.
I bought a chuki/sohc lip, and rattle canned my stock SE's white.

which is probably why someone decided to bash my window someday. they stole my bag.. i hate thieves!

The crooked exhaust thing was bothering me so i decided to get it repaired since my friend gave me this exhaust for free i might as well get both done at the exhaust shop.

New beater exhaust, angle corrected, a little clean and looks brand new. Apexi N1.

A lot of problems with the car. My transmission broke. an injector failed. it stayed on jack stands for 3 months or so. my dad and i got into an argument, i could've found another replacement trans but he took the trans without me knowing to get it rebuilt, which was way more expensive than my plan. but whats done is done.

Tried kicking the clutch a few times on a rainy day late at night. it was fun, till i spun out and i was lucky enough to just skim the light pole with my rear bumper. nothing a few bandages cant fix. there is still paint from my bumper on that pole till today.

Me and my friends s14. sticker bomb days.

Me and the same friend, but he sold his 14 for this silvia.

My car basically stayed like this my whole senior year of high school. i left for my second half of military training. and virginia i went and came back a few months after.

I came back. I wanted to stay NA for some reason. i've always loved the type x kit and originally planned my car to look like this since i first got the car.

bought an Injen Short Ram Intake. i swear i bought the right one for my car but the fitment wasn't on point. but i made it work some. also bought 4-2-1 DC ceramic headers.

i then got a friend to weld my diff. i painted the diff cover, didn't come out the way i wanted.

it was time for some exterior cosmetics. picked up some kouki tails off craigslist. and ordered a roof spoiler off ebay.

ordered some JDM 180sx rain visors online.

ordered some forcewerks FRP rear valences. found a type x wing on craigslist, not sure if it was OEM or not. i spray painted them all gloss white.

found some type x side skirts on craigslist also spray painted them. my car was 3 tone white, my bumpers faded white, the body its original paint, and my kit spray painted. i decided to spray paint my bumpers so it would be 2 tone this time. my friend also hooked me up with some beater rims that was on his car before he sold it. looks nice to me.

my friend picked up a red coupe. new addition to the crew.

the same friend who had the moss green s14 and black silvia, sold the silvia and got another s14. he doesn't know how to stick with one car.

i had a rough day at work and was impatient to get home. i turned to early into my driveway. i was so upset with myself, i tried popping it out with my hands then with a pole. i made it worse.

i also did a bit of my interior. my brother got stationed back home so i got him to get me some parts before he came back.

NRG goodies, and Nismo shift knob.

ordered this drift button off ebay. maybe i can drift now

everything installed.

i also bought subs and an amp, cos you know girls like the cars that go boom. i need my bass with my music.

donut shot.

action shot.

more shots with the homies.

i bought this huge carbon GT wing from a zilvia member who makes these. bigger table for me to eat my food.

unfortunately i only had this for a month or less. i ran into a few personal problems and had to sell it for a small fraction for what i got it for. got into a bad gambling habit and fell near to debt.

my car basically stayed like this for about 2-3 years.

i went over the amount of pictures aloud in one thread post so i had to delete some. i will post my future plans with my car on the next posts if the mods decide to accept my build thread so i can continuously update with my progress.

didn't know my build thread got approved. onto the story..

i was planning to sell my car so i made everything near stock. took off the kit and put everything in storage. sold as much parts that i no longer needed. i wanted full authentic type x kit all around.

i was looking for a cleaner hatch, a 1993 with a sunroof to be exact. just personal reference even though a lot of people rather not deal with the hassle of a sunroof as time goes by.

one finally came up, but at the wrong time, in the situation i wasn't able to get it and some that i no longer like took that opportunity from me.

anyways i've decided to stay loyal with my car and stick it out.

heres how my car looked a few months ago.

got bored of driving it like this so i put the roof wing and kouki tails back on for now. it will stay like this for awhile.

couple of my friends motivated me and inspired me again to get off my ass and actually build my car.

my friends turbo miata.

and my other friends f20 swapped hachi.

i've been collecting parts since january, mainly cosmetics apparently. heres some pics of what i have in the mean time.

everyone loves it when packages arrive.

some titanium open end lug nuts and nismo valve stem caps for kicks so i could get free shipping from amazon.

gigantic boomerang from japan. my type x wing i got for a good price off ebay.

finally went back in stock at thenismoshop so i hopped on them right away. jdm amber side markers.

pair of n1 vents. these are pretty pricey.

had this for awhile, never had the chance to put it on. glad i got this when it was a bit cheaper than it is now.

the mailman thought it was a good idea to leave my package out in the open like this. found it when i got home, glad no one stole it.

there were some ganadors in there that i got from gtrgarage.

should've waited, actually ended up buying another set from them a week after. i later sold the first set.

carbon ganadors. not real carbon btw.

and some other parts i got from fellow zilvia members.

mudflaps to fight rocks.

driftkeni goods.

2 sets of rear valences. doesn't hurt to have spares.

some 725cc injector dynamics injectors. blue my favorite color of course.

drift freaq motor and trans mounts with heat shield. heard a lot of good reviews on these.

complete type x front bumper from the jdm parts guru kriskouki.

nearly all aero united with a lot of bubble wrap left over to go around. just need an oem lip, but funds not there atm.

my z32 ebrake conversion i got from surly, will go great with my 30mm aluminum r33 calipers fully rebuilt for a deal on ebay.

and a vacuum i bought from crimsonrockett.

but it wasn't a vacuum, got the whole chassis harness from a rhd 180sx with the DCC and parts needed for it to work including the AC condensers.

a lot of broken wires bit from rats i'm assuming. but with some soldering and heat shrink should be just fine again.

bought another chassis harness to compare with and for back up just incase i fuck up on the wiring some how. gives me a headache just looking at it.

future plans.

going to mainly focus on the motor first. in between i will slowly finish the suspension, interior, body work, electronics etc.

the plan is to purchase a black top SR. build the head and the bottom will be built afterwards in the far future. i researched that a stock block should be able to handle 400hp at max. looking to make 320-400whp for now.

going to try and do everything i can to build this myself with a little help of course.

i plan on doing the body work and painting it at home in a makeshift paint booth that i will make.

i plan on entering a car show when its done. i want the car to be a street/track kind of car. looks nice and can boogie too when it comes down to it.

i've been on the down low from drifting on the streets, tired of paying for tickets. and the track is way to far from where i live so i will be focusing on building this car and hopefully move nearer to a track so i can be more confident and be up to par with my car in the future.

i've done a lot of research, learning new things and i pretty much have a list of parts to complete to finish this. but of course along the way i might change up some things. its going to be tough and i know i am going to run into a lot of problems.

not in a rush at all, going to go at my own pace and my wallets pace. hoping to finish this project in a year or two.

will be updating with progress when i can.
