First someone has to purchase a real RWB kit.
Then that person would have to have a mold made of the kit. After this happens, the individual with knockoff RWB aero would have to find people who would buy said kit. Being as how the market is smaller, the price of the knockoff aero would be quite expensive. Most people can't seem to keep up with maintaining a Porsche which is stock, let alone try to make a knockoff race car one.

This sounds like the life I want to live. I'll be the Mary Poppins of body kits, traveling from home to home, helping people's cars. Except I'll crash on the couch, smoke pot and scold your dog when it barks.

He is smart, he isn't someone young, knows how the game works. Gotta keep food on his plate. On that note, won't be long til more people get Rocket bunny s14 conversion kits, that one of those falls into the hands of someone with connections in china that will knock it off..

Who gives a flying funk if someone knocks off RWB? RWB is a luxury brand- part of the whole reason for doing an RWB kit is the fact that the man himself comes out and installs it. If Nakai doesn't install it, you just have a widebody Porsche with knock-off parts. As someone who's been in the Porsche restoration biz for the past eight years, I dislike Nakai's methods but I certainly cannot fault the man on the popularity of his end product. We have a certain panache associated with our name but it's nothing like the mark-up he achieves. |

RWB Knock Off?
Yes it is. Also, I love how Japan calls some these cars "930s". It's actually just a regular Carrera (911). Yes, lots of part numbers moved to 930.xxx.xxx with the '79 SC, but the car is still a SC bodied with a 915 transmission. 930 is the turbo car which not only has wider fenders but the actual suspension is different too. Several articles stat Nakai's car has a 3.6L engine. I believe that to be a lie. If it was a 964/993 3.6L, it would be dual ignition and either have twin-distributor or a 12-plug 935 distributor. (Jaguar conversion was not available back then). I do not believe there is a 3.2 -> 3.6 Big Bore conversion either. 3.4 is the only one I see all the time. Without running dual-ignition I don't believe his car can be making much more then 250whp. Here is speed hunters also calling it a "1985 930". http://www.speedhunters.com/2008/09/...i_porsche_930/ Speed Hunters claims the car is a 3.8L with 360hp. Eurotuner article showing this beast. "3.8L running on Carbs". Still not seeing it. Looks like single ignition still. And finally, in 2011 - Quote:

I've read somewhere that stella started its life as a turbo car, whether he stripped the turbo and or motor swapped it is beyond me.... like you stated i doubt it was a 3.6l in its early life and the more recent pic definitely shows us that it looks like a 3.8L.

RWB Knock Off?
Quote:
It was a 1985 SC bodied car (as shown) with a 915 transmission. This means it was a 911 3.2 Carrera (just like mine). He likely ditched the EFI system and went with a ITB setup. He may have done a 3.4 Big Bore kit (just jugs and Pistons). It would have been a hoot of a car one way or the other. 2,100lbs is pretty standard for a track 911. I've seen countless Japanese cars and blogs call the late model 1979-1983 911SC and 1984-1989 911 3.2 a "930". Scans above show this, all three cars are called "930", one is a CIS 3.0, the other a EFI 3.2L. I suspect the misconception starts with the engines being clearly stamped 930.xxx.xxx. The casting change was the result of the new cases being based off the 3.3 engine platform. A strong departure form the older 2.2, 2.4 and 2.7 engines. |

You do? What year? I just sold my '98. Was a hoot and really for what they go for, it's hard to beat the value. 210hp, VVT, pulls hard to redline, 2,800lbs and very easy to work on. Also, Pelican is more Air Cooled focused, you should try Planet-9. |
