RWB Knock Off?

Normally anytime something popular hits the knock offs quickly follow. Aero is one of the biggest. Porsche Aftermarket is saturated in knock off RUF, Gemballa, Stroskee (whatever) and all the various OEM and Racing parts; RSR, 930, GT2 etc.

Some of it is people don't want to pay RUF prices and others because it's impossible to get anymore, like RSR fenders.

So why is it, at $22,000.... No one has made a RWB knock off? It's an extremely simple kit.

RWB Kit:

By comparison the BB 930 fenders are just over $300 for fenders and $300 each for bumpers. It's just no where near as wide.

So is it just the industry respects Nakai that much?

This thread is a direct result of owning an older Porsche while still living with the S-Chassis mentality.

Typical Porsche Owner: "$22,000? That's it?"
S-Chassis turned Porsche owner: "Why aren't there knock offs? / Cheap Chinese aftermarket? brb... Making thread..."

IMHO your not just paying for a KIT you are paying for a Nakai san design and name etc.. Entry level for the cars themselves just aren't there yet with regards to price and then to hack it up? Your average new Porsche owner isn't gonna buy a car on loan and spend another let's say 5-20K for paint, body work, suspension and wheels even with a $900 knock off fender flare kit. It's actually refreshing

From what I understand, Nakai san interviews every individual in a 1-7 day sit down before even considering taking on one's project. That alone will turn off about 99.9% of the knockoff industry as they would be snuffed out before even getting to see the kit (much less making sure to have a vehicle, the several year wait time, the cost, etc).

Just doesn't quite work that way.

P.S I know the OP is trolling

Put down the pipe.

RWB actually only makes kits for cars 1964-1997, not new ones.

Porsche owners also regularly destroy their cars to make them into race cars, RS, Turbo, RSR, GT2 and RUF clones. They use piles of "knock off" kits and wheels. Or should I just say "replica"? No body building a GT2 clone is using Porsche factory parts. Few, very few building a RUF of Andial use original parts.

Paying for Nakai's design? Then why doesn't that logic apply to Rocket Bunny, Amuse, Sexy Knights, and RUF?

I think he only does 1 or 2 cars at a time.

Even then, regardless of the wait time, the amount of hoops one has to jump through to get one done is probably a major turn off for 99.9% of the knock off manufacturers (including buying a (skyrocketing prices) aircooled gloried VW bug to begin with). Aircooled Porsches have seen quite a price spike in the last 5-8 years.

P.S I would love to own a gloried aircooled bug

Ain't that the truth, then again they don't charge $22k for their kits either.

I do believe RUF requires an authorized dealer to install their parts however.

I use the market place, I have no shame in that. I have a paid sub to support the forum and my threads are better than 95% of the other FS/FT threads on here. Don't see what the issue is?

Your hints that you own a porsche are getting less and less subtle, we get it, you own a old porsche. You should probably go hangout on a porsche forum.

Also, "stay classy" lol, what's next? Calling me a hater? #Hatersjustjelly #myporscheisgreen

Not hinting at anything. I've owned two and sold one. Big whoop. Guys on here own GTRs and cars that cost 3-4 times what I spent. I spent $18k, nearly $10k less than the cost of a new FRS.

I was a premise for 10 years. I stopped paying this year because of all the spam and lack of moderation. Why should I financially contribute to something that is falling appart with no sign of getting better.

As for #stayclassy, it's a return shot. You made a snide comment implying my thread was not contributing. You predominately use the forms to profit from and I don't see any huge value-added thread production coming from you. So yeah, why you hating?

It's better than another picture thread or spam thread.

Honestly you would probably be better off trying out some fiberglass work yourself. Some local guys have done it entirely one off. One of my customers has a 95 impreza L who did a widebody competely out of fiberglass or a major portion was fiberglass. It took him almost a year too because of work and social life.

I'm not saying start buying up tools to mass produce body kits just to attempt something

Nooooo he's been quite busy in recent times. Go on Instagram and look up Christian Coujin (?)..the dude is basically a groupie and owner of the blue RWB out of Seattle. Nakai-san has been all over the globe this past year.

The $22k price tag is for the experience as well. Nakai-san flies out to you, does the interview, then gets to work on the car. For something that's one-off I think it's kind of cool. Would I buy something else for that money? Yes. If I were a rich man I'd consider a RWB one day...maybe.

when I was working for FedEx I met a Porsche guy that was looking for upholstery... As we were talking about pricing, I think I screwed myself by saying I'd redo the front seats for $350. I think it turned him away because it was too cheap. He went on to say he recently paid $800 to replace an oil line that ran from the back to the front of the car.... When I asked why he didn't just buy some hose and fittings, he looked at me like I was high. I guess a lot of Porsche owners just feel better paying too much...

I met another guy with a 350sbc powered Porsche 914... that guy was cool as fuck, and that car was sketchy fast.

.
Absolutely fucking true.

How dare you suggest buying a part not made by Porsche and sold overturn counter sta dealer!

Some of the prices they pay for stuff is mind boggling. There is an EFI conversion thread in the 930 forum that makes me want to scream.

It goes. No longer a premie so I don't update it here. It's still on Nasioc.
Wasted the summer dicking around with the Boxster and 240. Boxster is sold.

Hopefully the car will be on the road by spring. Got a new idea for the radiator.

This is a pretty good point

For example, pretty much every uras kit in existence has been knocked off, and no one is complaining about paying for Nomura's design in that case.

I think the main reason why a rep doesn't exist is because this kit's target market actually has that kind of money to spend on this kit if they so choose.

Not enough poor people own 964s to justify replicating this kit. The people who actually want this kit will pay that much for it. Unlike owners of S chassis, Z, AE86, FC, etc.

Sexy Knights is a team/group that developed their own body kit style years ago. This style became known as Sexy Style which is one of the most knocked off kits ever. Same for Hot Road and many others.

Go cruise Version Selet, Chase Aero and Shine Auto, all knock offs.

Whoever knocks off RWB should do the whole experience complete with Nakai-san-senpai coming over to mooch off you and stay in your guest bedroom for a week.
Except instead of him it would be like Ken Block's cousin or someone.
