NOOB: Redtop(62) to blacktop Power FC

Hey guys,
wasted a night/money at the tuners tonight.
sorry I know this topic has probably been covered a million times, I searched with no solid answer on re-pinning/re-wiring.
and no, don't tell me redtop/blacktop is the same cause the ecu wiring is slightly different.

coles notes:
- installed power fc
-->everything a-ok
- cyl #2 wasn't firing
-->(brand new ngk iridiums (heat range 7)
- swapped Power FC units with a friend's to check if its wiring, etc.
--> started all 4 cyl on his ecu.

thats how we narrowed it down to "its probably a blacktop ecu"

Which wires do I need to swap/jump/re-wire/re-pin ?
Please and thank you.

Well there's a serial number/part number on the side which identifies what the computer is for..check that out first rather then hacking your wiring to work for a blacktop when that might not be the issue..and from what I've heard the harness pin outs are the same just the redtop ecu uses a skinny o2 sensor and the black a fat style..but not 100% sure on that

heres your answer. Assuming we are speaking ONLY about s13 blacktop sr20's. yes redtop and blacktop ecus are the same (e62/e5). there is one blacktop thats different when referring to s13 sr20's though. its a late model blacktop sr that was utilized in the type x. its a J4/j5. There are roughly 5 pins that need repinning. Ive done it countless times as i have a j4 blacktop and have tried friends ecu's (older ones) and plan on hooking up an e62/e5 power FC (i got a deal).. its nothing to do, just takes a little bit of time and having the wiring diagrams. That being said, you REALLY need to look up the part number on the power fc to determine which one its for to adjust the pins properly otherwise you are waisting your time.

google my diagram, "J4 to 62 ECU Pinout"

I made it 10 years ago when I did one of the swaps...

In other news, however, Using the wrong ECU will cause only 1 cylinder to fire.
Since you said 3 fire, I have to suggest your Power FC is bad.

thanks for the help. I've cross referenced and double checked.
4 wires need to be changed.
If 62 ecu harness to use blacktop swap:
2->3
3->2
5->8
8->5
9->25
25->9

After thinking about it, you're right Kingtal0n, I also suspect a faulty ecu... let's hope we're wrong haha.
