Help me pick a bucket seat

Well I'm in the market for a new set of seats for the 240sx, and I'd like to get everyone's opinion on some choices I've selected. I've stuck with some of the bigger name seat manufacturers, but if there are other options out there that are just as good in quality, feel free to post them up. I'm 6'0" and 180+lbs. Medium build with size 33 waist.

I'm upgrading the seats for a couple reasons. First is just the weight factor. I'm looking for seats in the 15-16lbs range, so when you add in the sliders, I might save 15lbs a seat, or 30lbs overall. Secondly, I'm going to be running a cage and harnesses, and needs seats that will work with both. Third reason...well...well the third reason escapes me right now. I've had these S15 seats for a couple years now, and maybe it's just time for a change.

My car is mostly street and strip, but I'd still like seats with a bit more lateral support than stock. The lighter the better, but I'm trying to keep it to less than $1000 for a single seat and mounting equipment. So nothing too exotic (ie: carbon fiber or kevlar).

Here's what I've got so far:

Bride - Zeta III, VIOS
Corbeau - FX1
Recaro - Pole Position, Profi SPG
Sparco - Rev, Fighter, Roadster

If you own any of the above seats, have sat in any of the above seats, heck...have a friend that has one that you've seen in his car, let me know what you think about it. I'm just looking for honest feeback on how each seat looks, feels, and performs. And again, if I left out a seat that you may think fits my needs, feel free to post it up.

Thanks fellas.

Appreciate the offer homie. But I'm looking for more along the lines of a bucket racing seat. The reclining seats just weigh too much.

man fuck that shit get one of those 150 dollar seats from jcw...

lol jk. The bride seat is decently comfortable, but imho, not worth it. I sat in one, not the best ive ever sat in... any recaro seat ive ever sat in was like sex, corbeau's are very good bang for the buck, and i cant say anything about sparco, because i dont have any first hand experience.

but its all up to what your planning to do, your budget, and the look you like, and honestly, your figure. ive got a linemans body, seeing as how i was a lineman lol. 240lbs of muscle and fat dont like small seats.

does it need to be FIA app.? that will help narrow things, Also are you going to have helmet clearance issues i.e. will you need a "low-max" type setup or sidemount, or will bottom mount work for you as well? At 6'0" your right at the threshold it sounds like for bottom mount options.

I have had a Bride (Brix I though) and loved every second of sitting in it, i would enjoy just being able to get in my car for that damn seat, wish i had never sold it. Ive sat in a Zeta III and liked em alot. I'm a bit smaller though, 30in waist, 5'10"... theres a dude with a pair of em that comes to those meets on wed night he let me sit in em. They were in an S2k though. But tell us about the FIA and mounting needs to better narrow the search.

on a side note, what cage are you getting or custom and where? i've been wanting someone local to install a cage for me just cant find anyone around.

I had a zeta III in my s14 and it holds you in pretty well. But if you plan to use it on the street the thigh bolsters are way too high so for long drives it SUCKS because you can't move your legs around.

This time around with my s13 I went with a Recaro Profi SPG. Lower thigh bolsters = much more freedom for leg movement but it still holds you in like a zeta III.

IMO get a Recaro Profi SPG

They are extremely comfortable. Just a little flex in the shoulder area but you sit way down in them. Here is some pics of mine:

Scott

PS: They do not have FIA Sticker on the fiberglass yet but should get one in the near future. They have tested it already and it has passed which is one other reason why i bought them.

Well I can't find anything in the NHRA rulebook for 10.00 and slower cars requiring FIA certified seats. So I don't think that will be an issue.

And with my S15 seats and stock brackets, I have to lean back a bit in the seat to keep my helmet from hitting the roof liner. I figured most all aftermarket seats of a bucket design would sit near the same, and the brackets determined how high or low you sit? I really am clueless on all the different bracket types/designs, so will probably make another thread specifically for when the time comes to purchase a set.

Is it really beneficial to be so low? I mean, I don't want to be sitting on the floor, haha.

I just need an inch maybe, so I don't rub my helmet on the roof liner. I'm actually going to try and find the roof liner from a non-sunroof S14 and install that when I get around to doing a sunroof delete. That should also few up a few mm's.

Is it true that some of the sidemounts make it so the seats are off-center?

It's beneficial since you don't want to hit your head on the roof everytime you hit a bump

Yes, the side mounts put the seat around 15mm off the center

Its not a big deal I never noticed

http://www.tees-usa.com/seatrail_LowMax.html

If you scroll down to Nissan

It shows "ZETA3 series + FO(FG) type / 15mm (door side)"

Every seat rail thread I have to link + write the same info lol

Sean,

I have a Recaro Pole Position on my passenger side on some Japanese Recaro rails I had to modify. They won't work with Bride FG rails period - probably won't work with any other "JDM" rails either as the PP is a bit wide and has lots of padding. It can fit a 34" waist pretty easily, and has more room in the lower back area so some people find it more comfortable than some of the seats that are pretty tight in that area(I personally like seats that are tighter in that area).

If you want to meet up sometime and sit in it you're welcome to.

Yes that is correct

Pole Position won't work with Bride FG rails in S13/14

You can make a solution by modifying the rear bracket on the outer rail (near the door)

If you widen out that stance, sometimes its enough to make the Pole Position fit

Pole Position does also fit me comfortably as well, its perfect for a daily seat also with occasional track, especially since the bolsters are high enough to be supportive even when racing, but not high enough to get out of on a daily basis

Thanks again for the feeback fellas. Def, I may have to hit you up for a chance to test fit the Pole Position.

Logan, so is it only the Bride side mounts that move the seat 15mm off center? Or is this common with all side mounts for the S-chassis?

IMO, the Bride rails are so close to centering the seat it's a non-issue. YMMV

i have a zeta II, recaro spg pole postion.

the pole position is nice its a lil bit for bigger ppl so if you have a 36 waist your good..

the zeta's are for smaller ppl, same with the zeros and maxis.
the bride seats are very very nice but.. norm is rite there sides are very high. and very had to get in and out of all the time...

you feel kind of dumb if your gettin out of your seat but you dint do any racing... haha

bride > recaro for holding and better all around
recaro is just comfy.

how much you planing to spend.?

theres the panda garage seats and memory fab seats that are pretty nice.

but you have to get them all in small because it wont fit in 240sx.

I think the pole positions would be really nice. Bucket seat as you requested, will probably hold u well in the turns, and would be comfortable for daily driving.
