Wheel experts, need help with offset on Work and SSR rims on a S14a!
I badly need some help from you guys out there! I have a simple stock body S14a with Tein Flex coilovers, and I need some help with offsets on Work Meister S1 and/or SSR Professor SP-1 in 18inch!
What to choose? If you see my list under here, I found these cars and sizes on rimtuck.com, but which offset should I go for? My car is a daily btw, and I dont have any plans of stylingkit... Work Meister S1 3 piece NOW updated with pics!!! • (Front) 18x9,5 +3 and (Rear)18x10 +12 (#296) • (Front) 18x9,5 +1 and (Rear) 18x10,5 +12 (#634) • (Front) 18x9 +5 and (Rear) 18x10 -5 (#387) • (Front) 18x9 +16 and (Rear) 18x10 +18 (#401) • (Front) 18x9 +14 and (Rear) 18x10 +0 (Quail from NicoClub, SXOC) SSR Professor SP-1 NOW updated with pics!!! • (Front) 18x10 +16 and (Rear) 18x10 +24 (#260) • (Front) 18x9 +? and (Rear) 18x10 +? You may be asked to reference the wheel fitment thread, but since I know you've done some research on Rimtuck.com, I wanted to help out. I love both these style wheels and have done many different scenarios trying to find the perfect width and offset for my relatively stock S14 (rolled front guards, slightly pulled rear guards). I will say the big determining factor will be coilover clearance inside the fender and tire clearance towards the outside.
What tire width are you thinking of using....or better yet, what style suits you better? Would you like to stretch so you could tuck tire and go for more of a wheel fitment or would you want wider tires and have more of a contact patch? |

Sounds like you would be happy with a setup similar to #401 from Rimtuck. Think the guy's name is Norm (usdm180sx is his member name on Zilvia) and he's since sold this S14, but I know people (including me) love the looks of his setup. I think all you would need to do is a fender roll front and back and dial in the camber. Just copy his tire and wheel specs when you order.

I would submit, and others might argue, that more narrow tires are conducive to drifting simply because of a smaller contact patch making it somewhat easier to break traction either by brute horsepower or overcoming the friction between tire and tarmac. On the flip side, having more contact patch will typically yield higher cornering speeds because the tire can handle more lateral load. So again, wheel choice usually boils down to looks, however with your options between the Meister S1 and SSR SP1, both being available in true 3-piece construction and being relatively lightweight, I'm assuming you are also concerned about unsprung or corner weight. I've talked with Tanabe USA who produce the SSR SP1s, and wheel weights for the 18x9 and 18x10s are ~22 lbs (10 kg) each, so relatively light compared to other custom wheels and not too much heavier than OEM. You do have to consider tire weight as well.
If you are looking for a good daily-driver/light driving event wheel/tire combo, stick to a relatively tame 18x9 et+10 to +20/18x10 et+10 to et+25 wheel width and 225-245 front, 245-265 rear tire setup to avoid massive fender pulling and excessive negative camber settings. |

^ Nice writing there! Thanks! I was thinking of SSR wheels as well, because of the price compare to Work Meister the SSR is cheaper. I have also heard that SSR wheels are kinda light, compare to others and it isnt recommended for track use...
Do you wish some Work wheels too? |

My ideal setup, and this is because I already have the tires in the garage, is ordering a set of SSR SP1 Professors 18x9 et+19 HP disk to clear big brake calipers using a 255/35/18, and 18x10.5 et+30 SL disk to have maximum dish using a 275/35/18 or if I switch to a 295/30/18. I may end up ordering 18x10.5 et+18 SL disk to push it closer to the fender and keep the 275/35. Work S1s are too expensive for my budget, and ultimately, my wife's budget haha!

Get a quote from [email protected] (check the vendor section for the SSR wheel special they have). They are located in Texas here in the states. I would imagine shipping from the US to Norway is probably very expensive, so maybe they could drop ship them somehow from Japan after ordering.

What about this setup in SSR Professor SP-1 18x9 +11/+3/-7 in front and 18x10 +11 or 18x10,5 +18/+5 in the rear? And which tire size and brand to them?
Will it clarify my Tein Flex coilovers? Too much pull? |

The lower offset you go, the more pull you'd need, less tire width and more camber. My personal recommendation would be 18x9 +11 with 225/40-18s and 18x10 +11 with 255 or 265/35-18s. You'd need to pull the roll all around and will need a fender pull for the rears. |

I would say without a doubt, a 9" width in front will clear coilovers as long as you stay at or below the et+25 range. I can't really add anything to what Ray recommended as we've seen multiple amazing fitments from his S14. Even his tire recommendations are fairly spot on for the front and rear where you won't have to run excessive amounts of camber like the grey S14 mentioned above, just rolling the inner fender lips and a small pull on the rears. I want to say that the grey S14 setup (Mikeyyy) was using spacers on the rears hence the massive camber.

A good rule of thumb for me when running wheels on S-14s has always been 9j +9 front and 10j +10 in the rear. Rears will need a slight fender pull and some stretched tires, lower offset if you want to run wider tires.

Considering how its sticking out pass the over fenders, I'm betting the back is roughly 10j or 10.5j -15 ish.
The black car is Work and the Purple one is SSR. |

WOW! Saw your Work Equip wheels on your car and damn...much pull on your rear man! I think that will be too much pull for me!?

But what about 18x10,5 +5 (SUPER LOW DISK 123mm) ??? Quote:
Yeah, I figure it out that the black car had some flush Work Meisters... They have a different lip with high offets than SSR with same offets! I think I saw some extended fenders on the rear also, so you have probably right there...So I think this will not be an any option for me.. Last edited by Yellow_Fellow; 02-22-2010 at 07:21 AM.. |

Me personally just cuz I like the widest wheel I can run and have done it, I liked my car's stance with 18x10 +18 up front and 18x11 +20 in the rears Here's some of the wheels I've had, maybe these will help you decide...
