Shipping from States -> Canada
Hey guys, is there an easy way to determine the "hidden" costs I may see at the border? I got a guy saying it'll cost me $45 USD to ship to Canada, but I know customs is going to pull some duty crap and I'm going to get dinged. Can I tell how much I'm going to get dinged?

You'll pay Duty of 6% of the value of the parts, GST on the value plus Duty, plus any charges from the carrier..Fedex, for example, charges about $7.00 for paying those charges on clearance.

So is this a correct breakdown then? Lets say Eibach Sportlines for the parts.
Springs $170 USD S&H $45 USD So with a conversion rate or 65c on the dollar. That means: Springs $280.50 CAD S&H $74.25 CAD then add 13% (6% duty, 7% gst) $316.40 CAD and clearance is $11.55 CAD, therefore altogether it is: $327.95

Now that is from a registered business in the states, but if it was from a private sale, if there a way to reduce the duty? Or the customs officer decides the value of the objects enclosed?

If it comes to you as a gift, at least part of the value is exempt.
