S14 1JZ Build
Hello everyone. Decided to make a thread highlighting the progression of my S-Chassis during my winter build.
Anyways, my name is Alex. I'm from St. Louis, Missouri. I'm a college student and focus my time and energy to work, bills, cars, and school work. On to the car! These are the previous outlines of the car before late last year. Time to bring everyone up to speed. Background info on the car: 1995 Nissan 240sx Base Model Emerald Blue Paint 69F S14 SR20DET from a 1998 Nissan Silvia Nismo Motor/Transmission Mounts Mishimoto Radiator/Flex-a-Lite-Fans/Samco Hoses Front Mount Intercooler/Sard BOV Z32 MAF/Apex'i SAF-C Tuned by myself... Greddy Profec B-Spec II Boost Controller set at 11lbs. Exedy Stage 2 Clutch Greddy 'Trust' 3" Downpipe 6-Point Roll Cage (1.75''x0.95 DOM Tubing) Nascar DoorBars Recaro SPG Pole Position with Sparco 4-Point Harness Powered by Max Coilovers Q45 Brakes Powered by Max Hydraulic Hand Brake Tein Tension Rods/Tie Rods/Tower Brace Tanabe Front Sway Bar, Whiteline Rear Sway Bar Enkei RPF1 SBC paired with Muteki Purple Chrome lug nuts (17x9.5+18 & 17x10+18) MB Battle Gunmetal (17x9.5+15) This was my 2nd SR. I sought reliability after the 1st one blew up. This winter, I decided to take on a project I've really been intrigued on doing for quite some time. Originally, I was going to pick up a MX83 Cressida and swap a 1JZ into there. However, I realized it would be much more neat in the S14. Reasons for choosing this power plant? - Forged Bottom End - Inline 6 - R154 Browsing supraforums, I always get a kick out of the noobie threads titled: "How Much Boost is Safe" etc. etc. Everyone always responds, "whatever the fuck you want" xD. Lastly, I can keep the engine in relatively stock form and attain my power goals. Tear Down Begins. October 2010. Also, test fitting my new, err used Version Select Type II SR is out. I didn't care to document this too much. You all have seen a SR swap. De-greased. The New Engine/Transmission. Also, the adapted Engine Mounts and Transmission Crossmember. Courtesy of ZeroLift. The following takes place from December 2010-January 2011: Avid Solid Mounts Sanding down the front Cam Covers. Maintenance. 2JZ Water Pump Installed. New Timing Belt Front Crank Seal Cam Seals More cleaning. HKS 264 Cams. Looking much better. Driftmotion Aluminum Pulley Kit installed as well. Shot of the radiator. Griffin 2 Core, 3" Thick. Did a test fit. Oil Pan and the Sway Bar contact. Looking into spacers or the Sikky front sway bar. See what Salt does to the underchassis? Old Subframe, damaged. Primary reason for replacement is due to the fact that a PO cut square holes for the front diff mounts to put a wrench on the top of the nuts. Idiots. Meters. Apex'i EL II - Boost, Water Temp, Oil Temp, Control Box ACT Stage 4 Clutch, 3200 Pressure Plate. 60-1 .70 A/R 4" Inlet. GT35 sizing. Setrab Oil Cooler, Spal Fan. 2JZ AEM EMS Dr. Tweak Jumper Harness Apex'i Big Power Intercooler 24x9x4.75" FUuuuuuuu. Hours of the air hammer, and these damn collars are un-seized. New subframe with PBM Risers installed. Yes, I know I'm missing the driver side Traction Arm; was still snagging the seized bolt off the old subframe. Intake off. Installing the wiring harness. Shot of the exhaust manifold and external mounting. Looks so bare. Re-surfaced OEM Flywheel. ARP Flywheel bolts installed. Ready for the motor! Fuel Rail and the 680 CC Injectors Doing work! Re-assembled. Mated and ready for installation. March 2011: 1JZ Ecu Plugs Nissan f4 Connector Ignitor mounted. Fuel lines ran to the trunk. Mounted to the driver side frame rail. Shot of the SS Clutch lines and the new OEM Slave Cylinder Lines mounted. Rubberized undercoating on the underbody. Wire-wheeling the trunk. Big Bird thew up. -6 Fittings! Oil Return Assembled. Aeromotive FPR Mounted! |

Yes! Looks soooo much better! Wiring the fuel pump. Gutted the OEM Cluster to make room for all the new performance meters! All of them minus the Boost/Wideband. Those will be mounted in the center console area, above the Heater control possibly. Another shot of the fuel rail. -8 Adapter to -6 Lines Getting there. T-Fitting to get coolant to the Idle Speed Control Valve So long for now. Back to school to finish up the semester. I hope to have the car running by the beginning of May, then it's off for tuning. I will post pictures of new parts acquiring in the time being. Alex |

Just like an RB swap: mounts, wiring, driveshaft. Obviously the RB is much more documented into a S-Chassis, but this swap is becoming more and more common. Factory Redline is 7,500 RPM. I'll rev the motor to 8,000 RPM with the cams. Quote:

Thanks for the compliments^^.
Taking some suggestions... I'm trying to sort out some radiator hoses. The upper water neck will have the two nipples blocked off/welded shut; also the neck will feed straight into the upper radiator hose, instead of the 90. I'm thinking a lower KA hose will work, and even the upper. Just wanted to see what everyone thought first before I purchased something xD. And. The throttle cable. Anyone know where to go/look for a custom cable? 1: Buy a new custom cable that fits my dimensions. 2: Any way to mesh the Toyota and Nissan one together? |

Small parts update.
No real progress as of late since I'm at school wrapping up the semester. - Chromoly Driveshaft Shop, Driveshaft on Order I'm driving back from Utah to STL the 1st week of May, stopping in Chicago to pick up the Aero pieces. - Origin Front +20mm Over Fenders - Origin Rear +30mm Over Fenders - Version Select Type II Front Bumper Today, I purchased the rest of my suspension. Baller Bolts, Rear Suspension arm bolts Sikky Front Sway Bar. I had originally planned to space my current Tanabe one, however I decided to purchase a new instead that will clearance the oil pan. Yeah yeah, it's just pictures of parts. In a few weeks, I'll have the continuing build-up, videos, dyno-time, paint, etc. etc. Alex |

Another update.
I've made a lot of progress since finishing up another year of school. Looking much better. Sikky sway bar installed with perfect clearance Downpipe and wastegate installed. The finished gauge cluster! I went ahead and ordered a MKIII Samco kit. Lower hose fits perfect. Power steering kit installed. Really cleaned up the engine bay. Driveshaft Shop driveshaft pieced together perfectly. Shot of the downpipe underneath; will have to be modified for better clearance. Only 1 clutch inspection cover came with my transmission. Toyota wanted $90 a side for them, so I found some carbon fiber ones on Ebay. They're pretty lame but will do the trick. And a last shot of the clearance between the radiator and engine. Had I used a single core radiator, puller fans could have been used. Still waiting, almost a month later, my Baller Bolts rear suspension bolts. Hopefully this week, I'll get the car trailered to have intercooler mounted and piping fabbed up. Also need to wire up my AEM Map sensor, wideband, and boost solenoid. Lots of progress, just the small things from here. Alex |
