conversion hubs?
ok. so i kno im prolly gonna get bashed on for doin this thread but here it goes. and i dont really care im not on this forum very much and only come on it when i need some imfo. and thanks to everyone that actually does that instead of talkin shit.
but anways... im thinkin about doin a 5 lug swap. and i always see these conversion hubs on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Silvi...em140232774843& and im wondering if anyone has any expereince with these or not. if there a good buy... waste of money... or what. any imfo will help. thanks guys Andy. I would say replace the studs and the bearings.
Even though they say oem. Which is outside the, "OE type". Meh. Not like the hub it's self will break. oem bearings with arp studs. Should be alright.

probably break off as you see your 5 lug wheels go off a cliff and you die yelling damn u ebay, damn u.Just get some blingin ass 4 lugs like work emo's or volk's.

If you have ANY doubt in the quality of these hubs you should probably go with ichibas. You would probably spend less money getting the ichibas than replacing all the bearings and studs.

allright thanks for the imfo guys i appreciate it. maybe i will get em and see how they are so i can tell other people. man i hate being the guinny pig haha. the thing is my dad has a shit load of wide 5 lug ford wheels layin around so i can get the wheels for prolly free. maybe with the money i save on wheels il just buy the hubs and find out myself.

I think saving a little more and buying hubs from a reputable company will pay for itself in peace of mind. Its ebay parts, you never know. They could be crap or they could be great.
Just think worst case scenario, you spent $350 on Ebay hubs and they mess up on you. Then you would've wished you saved the extra $100 to buy better brand hubs. If you do buy them, give us a review.

go with ichiba front and z32 rears. youll be so much happier with the satisfaction of knowing that youre not installing garbage on your car. At least i would.
if you dont care, then go ahead and give it a shot. I guarantee studs and bearings quality is the suck compared to OEM or even the ichibas. |

Well, Ichiba hubs are also well known for going bad.
Shit, just two weekends ago, as we were installing the front hubs on my buddies car, the retainer things that hold the bearings in place just...fell out. Literally. No force...nada. Just fell out. So, an even better choice would be OEM S14 fronts(with the lca) and Z32 NA rears. |

word, ive heard S5 hubs are better than ichiba. thats what i'm going with, ordering them in a day or so.

well if i do end up doing this is it really possable to use the factory calipers and stuff and just use the 5 lug rotors? is there any difference in width or anything with the 4 and 5 lug rotors or a size difference? i work at auto zone maybe il go and pull some rotors off the shelf and see if theres any differences in them. if there is i can get everything i need for fairl cheap.

I debated over this for a while.
In the end NOTHING is going to beat OEM. I went with NA 32 rear hubs ($40 a pop at junker) and I picked up a s14 spindle and hub set for the front for $150 on this forum. Add an extra $75 for the MOOG ball joints for the front and you are straight. |

i wouldn't swap hubs just for rims anyway. reason why i did mine was the brakes, redrilling discs sucks big time if you ask me. but now i get the payback, i'm struggling to find some cheapo 5 luggers for drifting

I did the whole S14 setup on my coupe.
Might get conversion hubs for the hatch, I dunno. I ended up needing bearings anyway, even with OEM shit. it's a crapshoot.

I just put my OEM S14 5Lug hubs in up front maybe a year ago and they are starting to make noise already, so yeah I guess it is a crap shoot

There is a safety factor involved with the whole 5 lug deal. It is the reason stock "high horsepower" vehicles come with 5 as opposed to 4 lugs.
Your 240 with an SR swap in stock form should safely perform on 4 lugs. If you start upping boost and modding go to 5 lug...engine torque is what dictates the number of lug nuts at the design phase...so you should mod accordingly. |

Im sure that may be somewhat true from an engineering standpoint but what about the many cars running 4-lug and huge amounts of power? I doubt that the 4-lug hub would be the first thing to fail.
I doubt that it would make much of a difference.

If the car is putting out a whole lotta torque and launching on slicks i would worry about five lug for strength, otherwise it's still good for the wider array of brakes and wheels you can get.

I have Peaks on my car right now. People have had problems with Peaks as well. I think the only aftermarket brand I know of that has not had any problems are the Circuit Sports.

Yeah, but there are two different versions of Peaks out. a "street" version and a "pro" (performance?) version.
As far as I know the street ones are garbage but the pro level ones are supposed to be quality. They use OEM bearings and are zinc coated. Unfortunately, I believe they retail for close to a grand for both front and rear hubs. |

I used GTO/attain front hubs and they were on point. loved them. direct fit.
but i have an issue. my friend keeps insisting i can use s14 rear hubs? direct fit on my s13? I didnt think this was the case, but hes swapping z32 rears on his s14 and was going to give me his s14 rears. he keeps telling me the hub is a direct fit, but i didnt agree. it is possible with the whole assembly though...? what is needed. im pretty sure hes giving it to me free. |
