5 speed swap
I’m finally at the point of being ready to swap my 5 speed tranny into my auto s13. My question is, what parts would be smart to replace with brand new parts while the tranny is out of the car to save me headaches in the future? As of right now, I have everything I need to put the tranny in but All of those parts are used.

Resurface the flywheel.
Get a new clutch and pressure plate. New pilot bushing/bearing in the crank. New upgraded clutch fork pivot ball. New throwout bearing. Should be good from there if the slave and master are functional, might as well do a new slave if you can. Last edited by TheRealSy90; 10-25-2017 at 06:49 PM.. |

I used a ton of used parts that had recently come right off of another car and got lucky, but I wouldn't suggest doing that if I knew better than I did back then.

please do not re use your trans fluid.
im sure you already plan on changing, but I saw someone not that long ago reuse their old nasty trans fluid and it was bad. |

Don't replace something that is not broken because there is a higher chance of you breaking/incorrectly installing something than that part breaking naturally.

A new pilot bushing, throwout bearing, a new master and slave Bc why put the old ones in when new ones are so cheap, and an isr SS auto to manual line to bypass the clutch dampener. Rear main seal I’m just not touching because it’s not leaking and if I install a new one the wrong way, then I’d have to drop the tranny again to replace it. I’m putting a resurfaced flywheel in and a used clutch since I had it sitting around and it seems like it has decent life left. Kinda figure by the time i need a new clutch I’ll take care of it then. |

You'll be fine either way. Honestly all the pivot balls that break most likely have over 100k miles on them. A new OEM one should work fine if you are using an oem style clutch and pressure plate. When you upgrade to something with more clamping force I'd go with the thicker pivot ball. |
