Before i take it to the shop..... or drive it in a lake..
took the S14 and it's SR out for it's first road day since the swap (only minor up and down road trips)... and didn't make it home.... drove into work just fine, lunch break boostin'... then on the way home... it's starts bucking, and bogging... OH NOES... home is 18 miles away, interstate... i have no idea what the prob is... but here's the symptoms if anyone can help me figure it out...
power steering hose, one of em, exploded the other day... that was fun, anyways, it prob sprayed all over the filter, and numerous other things...... this is just some background info that might be helpful... okay... driving down the road, it's like I'm hitting a fuel cut randomly... missing or something, idle is rough, and sometimes smooth, then give it gas, and it acts like it's missing.. car runs and drives, cranks up like normal, but has those symptoms... now, it's a bit more aggressive than it sounds... as if my motor is dieing as I'm driving, but then comes back, dies, comes back stays smooth, then bucks/bogs... i removed the air filter, thinking it may be clogged with PS fluid, and the engine acted like it wanted to die... then idled back up to normal...put the filter on and it surged... during normal driving, the -hG should be around -10ish, give or take load... while cruising now, it sits at -21 and between -13 and -15 @ idle.... I'm leaning towards faulty MAF, but the ECU isn't throwing any trouble codes... I'm going to try and solve the problem with my 600CC injectors and Z32 MAF.. maybe that will help, i don't know.... it sucks having my baby parked in a wal mart parking lot over night... this will be the second night she'll be there... i may try to nurse her home, but I'm afraid of causing more damage... could a stuck/seized turbo cause a problem like this? it has been making a funny noise from what sounds like inside the unit while boosting (rattle whistle is the best i can explain), and is getting laggy... and it's a low end built turbo... CAS maybe? injectors? sorry for the long post, but i try to be as detailed as possible for you guys....

perhaps it's the turbo like you said. if the ecu isn't throwing codes then electrical/sensors should be fine. perhaps the turbo has seized or at times isn't spooling as it should and has hang ups. also, check your vacuum lines. there could be a leak that is unseen. I'd lean toward that as being your problem.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Could be as simple as a clogged up filter.
Pop the intake off your turbo and check to see if there is anything obviously damaged.

Z32 filter is 2 months old...
haven't checked turbo yet... i cleaned the MAF... same thing, haven't had a chance to check the TPS.. but after driving it to a safer location, in attempt to nurse it home, the car bucked, sputtered and finally died.... with the smell of burning brake fluid on the passenger side of the engine bay... i'm thinking melting wires, i have a short some where... it's a JGY customs harness, and they're known for mixed reviews about thier stuff, so i think my next option is to just order a new OEM harness, and convert it to S14 myself, that way, i know the work, and what's been done...

When its bucking and bogging, is it smoking like crazy like you have a boost leak and its running rich??? Check the usual boost/vacuum leak, also, does it seem to run better when cold then start acting up when its warming up? If yes, then I'd look into changing the water temp sensor too.

i suggest doing the cheapest thing and getting some plug cleaner from say autozone and cleaning any plug near the areas exposed to the P/S fluid... that would be probably the cheapest start and go from there

luckily enough, i had a spare harness, and coil pack, i install them, and motor came to life, sounded good for 3 seconds then dropped to like 400 RPM and sounded like it was firing on 2 cyls... i'm still thinking at this point of buying a new OEM S13 SR harness, and sending it to Taylor Durdan to convert it to S14, PREOFESSIONALLY.... i thought i did a good job... appearantly not.... here's what i've done so far... no smoke from exhaust MAF cleaned TPS @ .51v (i know, supposed to be .45v, but still within .45-.52 range) smells like a 2 cycle... rich as hell, but wideband reads LEAN.. and i mean --- no reading lean.. i'll have to do a vac/boost test soon, but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem... coolant temp sensor has been replaced... coil pack replaced coil pack harness replaced constantly checking codes- all clear (weird i know) any other input other than boost leak test? i'm thinking harness.....

i did a little test today on the 240.... i took some brake parts cleaner, and sprayed all vac/boost sources, couplers, vac lines... and nothing happened... car barely runs, UNTIL i spray the air filter... spray that, and the car idles right on up and purrrrrrs like a kitten... no where else tho, only the air filter... would this be an indecator or a bad MAF? or something else???
one thing i CANNOT understand, is why my wideband pegs out lean, yet the exhaust smells like a gas pump... i mean, it might as well have gasoline dripping out the exhaust....

what SR is it?
what is the # of the MAF? how is your regular idle...without driving the freakin thing? aside from the power steering were there any other issues? what kind of other mods have you done? has it been tuned? what does "and i mean --- no reading lean.." mean?

S13 SR Black Top
i dont know, whatever the number on a stock SR maf is idle was a BIT lopey before swapping cars, but purrrred like a kitten no other previous issues, ran like a top... fuck, it was a 12 sec car, and daily driven basic bolt ons as of now no tune yet, i have nistune, but loaded with a OEM base map for the SR ---, if you haven't seen that, than you must not have a wideband... it's full lean thanks Jr_SS, got a jump on me lol

i would do a quick fuel pressure test just for shits and gigles then move on if its ok and borrow someones ecu. Because its apperant that its lean due to the fact that it runs well with brake parts cleaner = fuel and afrs are lean. And i would also change the cts coolant temp sensor for the ecu not the gauge even though its new.

okay, weird.... check this out
replaced a fuse in the engine bay, ENG i believe, the 7.5 one, and plugged in my stock SR auto ECU, and blammo... no problems, car idles fine, boost fine, spins first second and half of third... odd... i thinking the guy who hard wired the consult serial port into my other ECU might have fucked something up.... looks like i'll be rocking the auto ECU for a while... time to keep an eye on my RPMS cause with that Fidanza, and that power, it got up to 7.5K+ quick....
