Help with trouble code from hell...
Ok. so usually trouble codes are somewhat straight foreward, but this one...
p1445. I have searched and found that it could possibly be the piece of mess right under the intake manifold possibly? I found that its unbolted on my car which is fishy and its also missing a hose clamp, I think this was caused by a previous owner. the instructions are so vague. my chiltons manual is also vague and shows a picture of the solonoid valve regulator but its covered up by the intake manifold. here is what the fsm says to do but those instructions suck. if someone could shed some light on the situation. I have the car sold but I need to smog it and I tried reseting the ECU but the CEL just comes back on. I need to fix this by tomorrow. Im not sure how to even get that thing out. Year, Make, Model, Engine? Is this car California emissions or just federal. Check the sticker under the hood that lists your engine size "this vehicle conforms to....".
Evap purge code should take a while to come back on after you reset the code if its OBDII. This is not a single drive cycle code so I would first make sure you reset the thing properly. Also if the car is OBDII, it will still fail inspection because when you reset any codes in the computer you wipe out the readiness tests which is an instant fail. |

Thats not going to do shit. Several drive cycles are required to reset the readiness tests. When you say dyno, i am assuming this car is pre 96? If this is the case, you can just pull the CEL bulb. They dont hook the car up to a computer. Then all you have to worry about is passing emissions. Do you work at an inspection facility?

It has to be a 96+, otherwise it wouldn't have that code.

Its a 96 240sx....
Ok so I got somewhere today, and no one that I talked to mentioned that the charcoal canister is under the passenger side trunk. The rear of the car and I possibly found the bad part. I called all the recyclers and they didn't have the part, so I called nissan and they ordered it for me. if I fix it Ill postthe result. |

It's an EVAP canister, works a little differently than a normal charcoal canister. I doubt highly the canister itself is bad, but rather any one or more of the solenoids mounted to it.

Or even something as simple as a punctured or loose vacuum line. The best way to test this kind of stuff is with a smoke machine and a scan tool, both of which you prolly dont have access too. You can pin voltage to the solenoids to see if they are working but that will only get you so far. The car should be able to pass with 2 readiness tests not done. You can clear the code and drive it for a while (say 100 miles) and then get it to inpection before the light comes back on. If you time it right, you can pass before the computer tests the evap system.

Ok so I found that the line coming off the sensor goes to a check valve, that I think should connect to the intake manifold but mine doesn't. does anyone have a photo of what the whole evap canister looks like properly hooked up? thats what I need to see in order to fix this im guessing. thanks for the help so far.
I have an obd2 code reader... could I seafoam the car to find a leak I would immagine... |
