Well I have a 1990 240sx and it has a SOHC KA24E in it. Well long story short it was misfiring out the exhaust. So I replaced the coolant temp sensor, which fixed that, and swapped the coolant, cause the other coolant was brown. Then one of the exhaust gaskets was broken so I replaced that. It ran alot better after that except at idle it would shake in the engine bay back in forth. I realized after checking the spark plugs that one of the cylinders was leaking oil. So I used this engine stop leak stuff (ten bucks a bottle with two cylinders). It totally sealed the piston leak. Now it runs awesome. So if anybody has any similiar problems just passing on what I learned.

The only thing I replaced was the clutch that was expensive. My SR is sitting in my garage, I'm rebuilding it before I put it in though, I rather have assurance that it won't blow when I'm racing LoL.

if you were leaking oil into the spark plug sockets, you have a bad inner valve cover gasket.

that stop leak shit is just a band aid, and a poor one at that... change the gasket. it's cheap and easy to do.

I have an extra gasket for the valve cover too. Should've done that first. Do you happen to have a link to install howto?

get an FSM. there's a diagram on the order you should loosen and tighten the VC bolts along with torque specs.

and its not the outer vc gasket

theres a little one inside that goes around the holes where the spark plugs sit

edit: k i just realized you have a sohc. i got no idea where that shit is on a sohc. haha. get a fsm and look it up. sorry.

Yea I have the fsm for the ka24de but I can't find the ka24e fsm online anywhere. It must be hidden somewhere LoL.

a valve cover is easy to pull off. You are talking about the spak plug tube seals. when you changed the plugs, was the oil on the combustion chamber side of the plug, or what other side where the wires connect?


If it is on the combustion chamber side then you have either a ring or a valve stem seal leak. If it is on the other side then it is the valve cover.

I was thinking it was a ring, cause there is oil on the combustion chamber side as you said. It is all around where it threads in and started to foul the plugs up. only in one cylinder though.

^^^ Im having the same problem in my DOHC, I found oil on the combustion chamber side on the #4 cylinder and on the plug. I know for sure it's misfiring. I installed a remanufactured head, valves- the works, along with all new gaskets a year ago. I just changed all the spark plugs and am still having problems.

I haven't checked my compression yet. Could it be a piston ring?

PS. My car still runs like a champ when I am driving, but when I'm at idle it shakes like I have a V8 underneath the hood.

my be its just me but u say u have a sohc ka24e, shouldent the spark plugs be on the driver side of the motor and not on the top.. thats just from looking at my motor. i guess i could be wrong, 1989 nissan 240sx coupe, ka24e..

The spark plugs fit into the side of the block and are threaded in on the side fully exposed besides the spark plug wire covering them. But the thread is inside the block and that's where I found oil on mine.

Just found out what was wrong with my car... It was the intake manifold gasket, that bolts to the head. The gasket somehow tore and was losing compression out of the tube leading into cylinder #4. So if you have a similar problem check your gaskets.
