Newb needs help in south fl
First off, let me say hello. My name is Steve, new to south fl, drive a 95 S14 SE (5spd swap).
Now to my issue(s): I purchased last June and the car seemed ok however has slowly just started to fall apart. Oil leaks everywhere, hack job wiring, electrical system drain which kills the batt every few days if not driven, clutch going out as well as synchros ... I could keep going but I think you all get the point. I bought a damn lemon. Most people tell me to just sell the car and get something else, but I have been a 240 enthusiast for a long time and now I have one and I would like to prove everybody wrong and make this 240 shine. With the ka in bad shape (200k+ and leaking oil) as well as the clutch/syncro issues, an engine swap sounds like the most logical solution. If I had the funds I would love to put in a VQ35HR but realistically I think the typical SR swap is the way im leaning. Here is what I need help with, it seems like the 240 craze has died down and I cannot find any shops in the south florida area. I have googled and binged away and no results, so now I turn to the forums for help. I want to find a shop that has experience and a solid reputation to do this. The guy I bought the car from obviously did a tremendous hack job and I NEED to have this car done correctly and reliably. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, sorry for the typical newb post ps- I know about enjuku in Orlando but im in delray beach and would prefer something a bit closer ... |

If you're gonna do an SR swap, you should do it yourself. It'll cost much less than any shop (even from so-called "hook-ups") and it's a great learning experience. Use the money saved for go-fast parts, tuning, suspension. You can rent a hoist and do it with pretty much basic hand tools. There's some places in Miami that sell motorsets but I'd recommend Drag International in Davie/Ft. Lauderdale, they have plenty of S14 SRs.

Thanks for the reply. Ive seen drag on craigslist a few times .. but as far as doing the job myself, thats not happening. I work 6 days a week and have zero time. I want to take it somewhere that rip this hack job out and do a professional install as I want and need this to be daily driver reliable.

Driftwire,
Thanks man! I really appreciate that! I had a guy who knows 240s glance at the car and said the main issues that he could see/hear off the bat was a bad timing chain, possible sticky lifter, front main seal and valve cover gaskets r leaking. Not to mention the clutch is going and synchros in the trans r rough. He said that even with those issues he thought I could get 4500 for my s14 if I wanted to sell it since I have the z32 front upgrade, hid, lsd and se model. Now the car does start up just fine and runs pretty smooth even with all the noise from the chain. I seafoamed the engine and got rid of the lifter noise but the timing chain noise seems a lil worse. At this point I know the DE is more trouble than its worth to fix. Its either a full on sr swap or sell the s14 ... Drag International gave me a really good quote on a s14 swap but I may put the car out there to see if I get any bites

Just open the front timing cover and remove the guides. Mine was making a real weird noise that worried me and I removed the top and right chain guide and no noise now. Its sooo much better If you not sure if the guides are there open the valve cover and look down. PM me and ill link you the how to

Drift bomb and daves240s are both in south fl and do good work.
I'd be happy to help you out too. Just a valve cover and oil pan gasket should stop the leaks. Throw a new timing chain in there since you got 200k. Ka trannies are a dime a dozen and not to expensive to have rebuilt either. Clutch is easy while you got the tranny out. |
