Competition Stage 5 sprung TQ capacity...
anyone have experience with the CC stage 5 (#1420) 4-puck sprung clutch kit holding around 550+ ft/lbs?
Im using it for road racing track days/time atack at around 450 ft/lbs and a 100 shot for random highway/street pulls (if it holds that), but no hard launches with drag slicks... Their info says it gives a 300% increase in TQ capacity which might be 600 ft/lbs, but that's just an advanced ricermath guess...it has their stiffest single plate pressure plate and 4 puck (sprung to hopefully be a little easier on the driveline and it's not for drag racing). "dude, just get a dual or triple plate for a small fortune and be done, you get what you pay for blah, blah, blah." thanks anyway. |

It might hold that at the crank... for a bit. At the wheels, I'd say you'll end up with a pressure plate that will kill thrust bearings and be impossible to drive for long with stock hydraulics given the high pedal pressure. So I doubt it's that stiff. There's only so much torque you can hold on a single 240 mm disk with a big pressure plate on it. I imagine it's in the ballpark of the ACT XT pressure plate and their 6/4 puck clutch, and they actually publish torque capacity at the engine (which is a probably pretty close for brand new, when it wears it drops off a bit).
But really... about the twin or triple disk clutch. Fidanza makes 7.25" clutch flywheels, and you can get the guts on eBay dirt cheap from NASCAR/circle track guys. Then you just get the disks and a small diameter Nissan TOB and the right sleeve for the stack height. It might cost a little bit more, but you can refresh the clutch for much less than buying a whole new single OEM style clutch. The puck clutches don't last all that long (maybe 15-25k mi in my experience, less if you need a lot of holding capacity), so you might as well get something that can get refreshed for low $$$.

I did. their calculation says it'll hold 600wtq, but their salesperson seemed to know less than me about clutches and they had no real world cars to mention that held the tq they say it can...the comprable offerings advertise that much tq at the flywheel and I've read enough other platforms not holding what CC advertised single plates so I'm skeptical.
The spec stage 5 full race seems a bit aggressive for the street, but I don't DD the car and cobra/gtr guys seem to think it wasnt TOO harsh, but those have less tortional vibration from the bigger motors. I'd like to piece together the twin disc setup like Def suggested, but I may need some time to put the right pieces together the first time and that'd be close to the price of the Comp twin disc that'll hold more than enough flywheel or wheel tq.
