v8 1UZ clutch setup

Hey,
I am currently doing the 1UZ swap into my 89 240 coupe. I have most of the parts figured out besides the flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate to work with the KA trans. On one thread I read to go with the toyota Tacoma, T100, Tundra 3.4L flywheel. The pressure plate I read to go with the MR2 Turbo, and clutch disk from an SR20DET. I have also read you can use the 3SGTE based flywheel, 3sgte pressure plate and 300zx z32 NA clutch disk.

Do any of you know anything about these setups? Its going to be drifted at the local track this season so im assuming the 300zx setup would have more holding power over the SR setup?

I just want to start ordering my parts already.

Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Jake

A 240mm SR disk will more than hold anything a NA 1UZ will make. I'd go with that. Larger clutch disks are hard on synchros and are more of a cheap OEM solution to more holding power while keeping a Civic-light pedal pressure. They tend to be hard on synchros, but most cars get out of warranty without issues (but some like the Z33/Z34 tend to have problems in warranty).

Yeah I think your right about the synchro thing. And I would be going with a 6 puck stage 3 SR disc which I think should hold. Im emailing two guys right now about custom 1UZ flywheels they make. Im slowly getting it all figured out.

If you use the 3sgte flywheel you just need to redrill the holes for the crank using the spacer for the flexplate against the mr2 flywheel will show you where the holes need to be drilled to.. I had a flywheel for a 1jz that was done for me that had the factory holes filled and then they re drilled the new holes.. it wasn't welded but they were some sort of inserts. I had that engine around 500hp at the flywheel and never had a problem. You just need to make sure you get the pilot bearing adapter that the guy sells the rest you can pretty much figure out yourself.. 3sgte flywheel with 3sgte pressure plate and whatever clutch fits for the surface of the flywheel and the input shaft of your tranny.

Oh alright, that clears things up. So both the 3sgte and the 3v/5v flywheels would need to be machined. I dont have access to any precision machinery or know of any in my area so I will be ordering a flywheel thats already been done.

I am currently working on extending my throwout bearing by chopping and welding a second one on to the end. From what I read, it should be extended 1/2" correct? Anyone know?
