1JZGTE swap on a S14

I researched options for a V6/inline 6 motor swap on my 97 240SX. I scratched out the VG series motors because of headaches such as major cutting on my ride along with price to do the installation. My next avenue was going with the RB series motor. I decided against it because of the lack of accessibility of parts and service for the motor in the US. Also because of emissions and I needed something that would be ideal as a daily driver.
SR motors are not what I want so no one can sell me on it, neither the CA.
Since the 1JZ motor is a 2.5 liter just as the RB25, would this be the next best thing for my swap dreams? The motor would more than likely come from a 90's + model SC300. I've noticed that there is a JDM 2000 model 1JZ motor from a Supra on Ebay.
All constructive input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

the 2JZ-GE came in the Lexus SC300. The 1JZGTE motor came from the toyota soarer in Japan. So that would probably mean that if you went with the 1JZ, it would lack of accessibility of parts and service just like the RB25

i read about this a little more and you are on point. i also read that the JZ motors coming from the SC300 uses a Auto tranny. That I can't get with. I'm reading into a 2JZ also. I know from the jump that this would require a lot of fab work to fit. In the long run I think it would be cheaper and less stressful to have.

Thanks dude...

SC300 came in 5spd manual and auto. Its just that the 5spd are very very hard to come by.

Heres a guy with a turbo 5spd SC300

Power enterprises timing belt, turbo upgrades fairly easy to find (gotta know where to look), the parts are always there, be resourceful.

330whp w/ bolt ons and 12lbs of boost should satisfy most anyone dont you think?

You'll need a front sump oil pan, otherwise you wont clear the crossmember.

Cullen is waiting for a new water pump for the Rocafella JZSX.....I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Thats the same thing that I heard. You can convert it into a 5speed however it is really involved to do so.

If I went for the sourer motor (1JZ VVTI)I would go ahead and buy the RB25DET because I would run into the same issue with parts and service. I also would buy the RB if I lived in Cali because Mckinney Motorsports and MotoRex would have access to parts and service. I live in CO right now.

There is a supra/sc300 forum where a guy in NJ has a S14 with a 2JZ motor in it. This brings up a thought also. Would any one know if there would be a dramatic change in the weight distribution of putting in a 3.0 2JZ motor into a S14? I'm guessing it would be considering the RB25 changes it a bit.

The RB does not change the weight distribution enough to worry about. The engine is only 60-70lbs more than an SRDET. You can compensate by loosing the AC compressor and moving the battery to the rear. As for the toyota engine, what about length of tranny and shifter hole? Driveshaft? Mounts? Those would be my concern to start with and also clearences for the piping. Then electronics..

I got a ride in this car and it is insain! It was only on it's low boost setting. I would love to have that kinda power in a car 4-500 lbs lighter.

The tranny actually sits about 1 inch closer to the instruments....a little hole needs to be cut. Driveshaft costs $100-200 mixing toyota/nissan stuff. Mounts....cleverly made using Nismo mounts and a little bit of metal fab, tranny mount was fabricated also. Piping should be cake, even w/ a HUGE front mount, and the exhaust will be easy also.

Wiring: If your a Toyota nut like Curbsurfer is, you have already figured it out by now.

I hear that the RB25DET and the tranny make it about 180 lbs more then the KA and tranny...

If you have the cash to look at a 1jz or 2jz I would look at the RB26... It has many aftermarket parts/support that are easy to find...

I'm not sure how much the 1jz or 2jz cost for a clip... but I bet install would be a bit more than the RB26...

thats my .02

i am aware that this might be a little bit off-topic, but i just have to ask... why do yo uthink you'll have to do major cutting on the car to fit a vg in there? my friend is currently in the process on doing a full vg30de swap (not TT) into his s14. he goes by heinekenns here on zilvia. if you do a search, you might be able to find a post he made when he first placed the engine inside the engine bay.

Cant you just use a 5 speed Supra Tranny? You'll need a custom driveshaft anyways.

I wanted the TT on the VG. That alone would be an issue in dropping that into a S14. I have a bud that told me he owned a Z32TT and he told me that it would not be worth the hassle. The 2JZ stock already has 300hp plus so I am leaning more towards the JZ motor.

*Off Topic*

This is interesting. A company that provided parts mostly for an SR swap is now a carrying a small line of RB parts.

that makes sense. the n/a vg will fit in pretty well. no matter what you plan on doing, just be prepared to spend a lot of money. sounds like you're set on doing the 2jz. that'd be a really nice swap to do. keep us posted if you actually proceed with it.
