1JZGTE swap on a S14
I researched options for a V6/inline 6 motor swap on my 97 240SX. I scratched out the VG series motors because of headaches such as major cutting on my ride along with price to do the installation. My next avenue was going with the RB series motor. I decided against it because of the lack of accessibility of parts and service for the motor in the US. Also because of emissions and I needed something that would be ideal as a daily driver.
SR motors are not what I want so no one can sell me on it, neither the CA. Since the 1JZ motor is a 2.5 liter just as the RB25, would this be the next best thing for my swap dreams? The motor would more than likely come from a 90's + model SC300. I've noticed that there is a JDM 2000 model 1JZ motor from a Supra on Ebay. All constructive input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. |

the 2JZ-GE came in the Lexus SC300. The 1JZGTE motor came from the toyota soarer in Japan. So that would probably mean that if you went with the 1JZ, it would lack of accessibility of parts and service just like the RB25

330whp w/ bolt ons and 12lbs of boost should satisfy most anyone dont you think? You'll need a front sump oil pan, otherwise you wont clear the crossmember. Cullen is waiting for a new water pump for the Rocafella JZSX.....I'll keep you posted on the progress.

If I went for the sourer motor (1JZ VVTI)I would go ahead and buy the RB25DET because I would run into the same issue with parts and service. I also would buy the RB if I lived in Cali because Mckinney Motorsports and MotoRex would have access to parts and service. I live in CO right now. There is a supra/sc300 forum where a guy in NJ has a S14 with a 2JZ motor in it. This brings up a thought also. Would any one know if there would be a dramatic change in the weight distribution of putting in a 3.0 2JZ motor into a S14? I'm guessing it would be considering the RB25 changes it a bit. |

The RB does not change the weight distribution enough to worry about. The engine is only 60-70lbs more than an SRDET. You can compensate by loosing the AC compressor and moving the battery to the rear. As for the toyota engine, what about length of tranny and shifter hole? Driveshaft? Mounts? Those would be my concern to start with and also clearences for the piping. Then electronics..

I hear that the RB25DET and the tranny make it about 180 lbs more then the KA and tranny...
If you have the cash to look at a 1jz or 2jz I would look at the RB26... It has many aftermarket parts/support that are easy to find... I'm not sure how much the 1jz or 2jz cost for a clip... but I bet install would be a bit more than the RB26... thats my .02

*Off Topic*
This is interesting. A company that provided parts mostly for an SR swap is now a carrying a small line of RB parts. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/phase2mo...rts/index.html |
