I picked up an alternator off a guy who said it was from a 95 motor. Ive been having engine trouble, mainly cooling since I installed the engine (ka). It just now dawned on me that the alternator may be from a 93. Im guessing my engine problems may be stemming from this.
Resulting problems/complcations??
I never looked at my 93 ka's (previous engine) alternator that hard and really didnt think to inspect the one the guy gave before I installed it. It whined a bit at first but I figured it was because it had sat for little while.
Ideas?

just get a new/refurbished one.

unless the particular alt. is hard to come by for some reason, i wouldnt waste my time with used ones..you never know what you're getting into.

Using the wrong one wouldnt cause mass damage would it?

Im gonna take it off, but I want to make sure I didnt fuck anything up already.

no it wont really screw anything up, just as long as the same amperage is produced, and the belt lines up.

93 Produces 80 while the 95 produces 90 after comparison.
So it was probably putting a good strain on that pos.

yeah, didnt feel like looking it up, but i'd just replace it with a rebuilt/new one for the correct year...if anything, you'll have piece of mind knowing the job was done right.

Almost.

89-94 models, 95-96 base models, and all 97-98 models use the 80A unit.

Only 95-96 SEs use the larger 90A alternator. The difference isn't noticeable at all below 5000rpm anyway, it's only above that number that the larger unit produces more current. Therefore there would be no strain or undue load using the 80A unit no matter what the engine's other problems are, cooling being one of them. Charging the battery has nothing to do with cooling at all.
