Ok guys. My 92 240 keeps overheating. I've replaced the waterpump, thermostat, and even the radiator. I'm thinking my problem is that there is still air trapped in the system (I've heard how notorious these motors are for trapping air.) My biggest problem is that I can't slide the climate control to Heat. The slider gets stuck halfway between cold and hot. I'm assuming when this car's dash was changed out, something didn't align properly and is getting the mechanism stuck. I've already checked where the slider hooks up to that little metal plate; I can't force it to go any further from there either.

Basically, is there a way I can properly bleed the whole system without putting the heater on?

There is a bleeder bolt 10mm on the intake manifold. It's near the water neck iirc

That's all I need to bleed all the air out of the system? FSM talks about that bolt, but still says to have the climate control on heat. Gonna see what happens when the car cools down.

Still heating up too much. Going to try jacking the car up and leaving the bleeder screw and rad cap off. Any other suggestions?

Thats pretty much the way to go. jack the car up in different directions, and keep trying to bleed air from the system. Sadly enough, the bleeder screw is not always at the highest point of the coolant system, so you sorta have to move the engine around it around to convince the bubbles to head towards the bleed port.

the problem on your heater control is that the plastic sleeve that hold the metal rod for adjusting temp has come out of its holder.

You have to pull your whole CC out and stick the plastic tube all the way back in and be careful when you use the control. i went through 3 diff CC's before i figured this out.

as for the over heating, you need to have more patience. this is what i do and i have never had a problem.
1. (car off) pour a half container of prestone into your radiator.
2. Fill radiator rest of the way up with water.
3. wait
4. fill radiator more, takes a while.
5. fill until you ar absolutely positive that it wont take anymore water
6. squeeze the upper hose to make sure theres no air trapped in it.
7. start car with rad cap off
8. wait till car warms up and add more water
9. make sure it wont take anymore water, then put cap on.
10. open bleeder about 5 turns until SOLID coolant/water comes out.

close bleeder and enjoy your driving. If you want to be extra sure about air, you can jack up the front of the car or park on a light incline like a driveway. you can also shake the car back and forth as your filling to make sure you get all the air out.

The plastic tubing has to stick back into the CC, or towards that plate?

i dunno what plate your talking about but the plastic sleeve should be stuck into the back of the adjuster switch on the CC.
If everything is still hooked up you can barely pull the CC out far enought o really see it.

That plastic sleeve needs to have a sort of retaining clip that keeps the sleeve stuck to the back of the adjuster switch, right? I can move the sleeve in there, but moving the switch back and forth from hot to cold brings the sleeve back out. Looks like there used to be something holding the sleeve in there.

yeah theres supposed to be a little snap ring type dealy.

Super glue that shit, thats what i almost did. mines just shoved in there with no clip.

Turns out the metal wire was bent which caused the temp slider to snag. The temp slider itself also snagged cause the plastic guide for the switch was also bent. Straightened it out a bit and put it back together. Going to put the CC back, and try bleeding the air out of the system again; this time with the heater on!!
