Axle-Nut help
Hey,
I'm currently freshening up my rear subframe. When I took the subfame apart, the car already had a z32 brake conversion. Problem was they hadn't included the e-brake conversion. Now I do have the parts for the e-brake but I can't get the axle nut off the axle. Right now, I have the rear uprights still connected to the axle, but off of the car. Does anyone know of a way that I can wrestle the axle nut off the axle without having to reconnect all of the suspension arms to the car and drop the car's weight to hold it still? Thanks, Nick |

If the brakes are still hooked up just have someone hold them down while you loosen it.
If not, try wedging a large prybar between the wheel studs and have someone hold it in place while you loosen the nut. |

You need at least a 12ft long breaker bar and a trampoline. Good luck!
Or maybe try using a jack to keep the hub from spinning. That might work. This isn't going to be fun! |

I had to learn on my own and my personal experience is
Jack up car Take off wheel Take out hub cap off wheel Take out cotton pin Reinstall wheel Drop the car Put a breaker bar with size hub socket Use a jack and jack up the breaker bar lefty loosey! |

1) The rear axle nuts are 36mm. 27mm is the crank bolt.
2) I have never replaced an axle nut with a new one and never had an issue. What IS important is putting the little keeper piece over the nut and putting the cotter pin back through. |

I will respectfully disagree regarding reuse of axle nuts; and I have seen plenty of folks do it without issue... Hell, I've done it myself... However, I'm surprised to hear that from you. Once I realized they were one-time use, I never did it again... and put 2 & 2 together as to why I've had a couple come loose on me back in the day. Good thing for retainers/cotter pins
