i know u are talking about outside painting and not inside a booth. The man asked and i gave him an answer. I do not approve outside since dirt and stuff will get in it and ur nieghbors shouldnt have to smell the fumes but i dont care its ur $ and car and area. If u like it then do it. I paint my cars in a great booth where i can paint and bake the car at 140 degrees in 20-40 min and drive the car away.... dont get me wrong i have painted outside but not too proud of it and it was only small things. NEver a full car. Id get arrested before i could finish a car lol.

u wetsanded the fender? just wetsanded it or you wetsanded then buff it out? buff it out and itll be shiny as hell . What did u clear coat it with? flatting agent in the clear?

You wouldnt use a flatting agent in the flake or base coat you would use it in the clear coat. It flattens the clear coat to get it flat look and still the same characteristics of of regualr clear. Want sure by looking in ur pics if u were going for a flat look but i guess that was just a picture of the base coat with out the clear on my bad.

yeah i dont belong here just trying to help but i guess ppl dont want it becuase i know my shit. Sorry i bothered to pop into this thread. Ill just stay out and let you guys do your thing.

Oh btw 8 coats of clear wont stay on well and it will chip of easily.

prolly not, but apparently like 5 of us are. jesus

what it comes down to, is its something you can do yourself with decent results. you dont have to pay 1500-2000 for a paintjob if all you want is your car one color. besides, you can always use hte stuff you bought for impact guns, repaint your aero after you rip it off and get new stuff.

just be rattlecan free! im now a convert

Personally I don't see how this rivals spraypainting a car. Of course it will look better, but that's because this is on a whole different level. If everyone was willing to spend 500$ on painting their car, everyone would at least have a Maaco paint job. The reason some settle for spraypaint is because it costs 20$.

the flake wont flatten just the clear..... u cant change the flake but you can change the depth of it by flatting it. Oh why are u gonna do it again? isnt the point saving money in the long run and not spending 1200-2000? for about 800-1000(my own car) in materials i can do a car in show car status. Its not the materials that add up its the time and detail that makes its expensive. I can just scuff a car up with a fine scoth brite and a gallon single stage acrylic enamel and one gallon of cheap nason clear for like 240.00 and paint a car but it wont look great just shiny again.

to dirtdiggler..... first look at the gun your gonna use for the job and buy a compressor that match it. As for what psy to paint. use the paint msd's to the gun u are using to figure that out. Use a water separator/oil separator at the compressor and at the gun if ur having problems with moisture. Just drain ur tank every so often to remove the moisture in the tank.

you can have good results doing this pretty much anywhere.

painted 3 stage over dirt with a 10 gallon compressor came out great.

the only reason i would ever rattle can a car is if it had body panels that were waaay off in color to the rest of the car.

You have to remember that most rattle cans are a lacquer and if you spray an enamel (automotive paint) over it, it will wrinkle. i charge more when cars come to me rattle canned, you gotta get it all off before you can spray it.

looks great man. I'm guessing it wasnt windy lol. Yeah i also never mess with rattled cars. I've seen ppl do that. I would use maybe sealer to save time i would just take all of the crap off and start over to get great finish.

a 22 gallon can work just make sure the gun can handle it. U dont want to be stopping every 20 seconds. For a hood u might run into trouble or get dry spots and heavy spots but like bumpers, side squirts and little pieces you'll be ok.

lol no it wasnt windy, but it was windy when i blended the trunk, i just covered the whole car in plastic and buffed out the little bits that landed in it when it was dry

It's not so much how many gallons, but the ccf or whatever that is important.

Most of the cheaper ones can't flow fast enough for a quality job.

Or so I've heard.

Or so I've heard.
do u mean scfm? thats the true amount a compressor can flow at a given psi. Its not that can flow enough. Its the pump that can flow enough air at a continous psi without refilling or over load the motor or burning up the pump. Cheap ones just die or flow very little scfm. most hvlp guns run around 35-45psi.
