Stop the rattlecanning! i have the solution
OK, we all know that i love to flat black my shit. Well i am here to tell you STOP DOING IT. I actually found that doing it the right way, not only looks better, but takes less time, less after work, and looks 100 better than a rattle can.
I did this in my FRONT YARD. no cover, no garage, nothing. It came out fantastic, side form a few bugs in the clear, i am super happy with it. after i wetsand and buff it, it should look almost damn near good. only problem is all the overspray that settled and the wind made the surface a tad rough. I sprayed almost 8 layers of clear so i have plenty to wetsand. It took me a day....a single solitary day from 7am to 5pm from start to finish with two people. so please, no more rattle cans. total, this cost me 500.00 paint was 250 35 gallon compressor i got on sale for 125.00 and a gun and supplies. yeah it costs a tad more, but fuck, its better than rattle cans guys. and where i painted it so please, save the spraypaint for your interior

I didn't know until the other day that you had a Legacy. Hook me up with some JDM projectors from one? Hahah.
Paint looks good, but I'm not a fan of flake on white.

thats not the point if you like it or not
its hte point that you dont HAVE to have a paint booth to get decent results. this shit looks 10xs better than what MIKE did to ruin my other cars. and i did it in the front yard, with nothing special other htan a paint gun, compessor, and scale

Good stuff, painting your own car saves sooooooooooo much money.
I got a paint setup at my shop and works great. One of my friends cars getting painted rx8 blue w/clear coat for under 420 bucks for all materials. You can do it a lot cheaper than that to if you know what your doing.

Of course painting it like this would look better.
Because your car does look good. $500 for a painted car is cheap. It's still $490 too much for the average zilvian. Got to remember, most of the people who primer their car are too cheap to even buy enough cans.

haha. Nice comparision zar!
10 dollar paint job vs 500 paint job. Yea, i think for most zilvians, an upgraded turbo would win over a new paint job.

Most zilvians, a knock off body kit with mismatched body panels would win over the $10 paint job.
My paint materials were $400 total for everything. Primer, activator, base, reducer, clear, hardener, strainers, stirrers, etc etc. Redline Red, which is an even more expensive color because of the pigments. |

No. I'll be spraying my own car that color.
I've delayed it because I'm making sure I have it all down. Everything from the body work to the paint guns. The new Iwata guns I'm ordering are going to run me $900ish. |

what gun did u buy? i'm guessing the lph400? i have 100 and love it. Ppl thought the fan pattern is too small but its good for little cars. I sure do want the lph400 extreme or maybe pickup a devilbiss plus gun and gti millenium. Iwata is the shit but buying parts sucks. Next best thing to satajet. It only cost me about 300 to paint my car and i'm doing it again so it should be only 150 this time since i'm dong mostly spot jobs and blending.
btw 900? are u buying 2 guns or one bc/cc and one for primer? i would advise you to go devilbiss 670gfg plus gun for cc. I heard its amazing for it. |

I am not a big fan of spray paint. I have painted body panels with it... However, I use automotive single stage paint in a spray can.
If i could do the body work my car needs, I would be all over painting it myself. I will probalby be doing the bumpers on my WRX on my own. My first bumper repair results using automotive sinlge stage from spray cans... From this(scratch, faded, bad clear ect): To this: Compaired to the rest of my 20 year old paint To the guys painting cars in there garages/shops/ect. Do you use any fans to pull overspray away from the car?

they should be using a fan of some wort as an exhuast to pull over spray away so i doesnt all sit on the car and give dry spots. Usally these are cross draft type set up's. The best out there is a true down draft where u have a man hole under you car that sucks all of the fumes/over spray down under the car and recircualtes out. On the top fresh air is being sucked as an intake. Way cleaner job and less materials used. On a cross draft u start on the side away from where ever the exhaust is and on a down draft u can start from the roof down. There are semi-down drafts but those suck and u never really see those alot.
