i don't think you can add power or go faster without physically altering 'something' on your car

how would one go about advancing timing? what kind of octane, i e how high of an octane would i have to run, and how much power would i gain?

Other than that, start modifying. Parasitic horsepower loss is one thing you can always do. Stock intake, ehxaust suck. You're not adding any internal parts to gain power. You'e letting the engine breathe better. Electric fan is always good. Takes out the 12 pound clutch fan. Goes back to the old adage, though. You can't get something for nothing. |

i meant it's not worth it for the a/c n powersteering thing. advancing ur timing isn't a a performance type thing really. i mean, if ur car is idling bad or not running consistent, then u can advance ur timing n yeah it will run like it should. i really don't c what ur talking about.

i'm not sure, its more of a maintenance type deal than performance, i don't know how to personally do it myself though, my friend did it for me, took him 5-10 minutes to get it just right.

You will get some noticable hp gains if you remove your resonator from your intake air box. Under your air box you can remove the large black plastic box and run a piece of aluminum flex tubing straight into your air box. This should give a horse or two.
But after you will notice a louder intake sound and better throttle response. |

you can turn your heater on to take heat away from the engine bay.. if you advance the timing and make your car run rich you will need high octance like 92+.. you will need octance booster or get racing fuel..
to advance the timing you have to play with your CAM GEARS.. if you arent comfortable with playing around with your engine .. you shouldnt... just get some bolt ons or some do it yourself mods.. but i would really consider the power steering/ AC / cruise control ... relocation of the battery to add weight to the rear [ is this good for 240SX's?... my mentality comes from honda tuning world? ] |

You can advance your base timing by 3 degrees or so as long as you run 91 Octane gas. It usually gives you a noticible gain in throttle response, increase in torque (3-4 ft-lbs) and maybe a pony or two. You don't need adjustable cam gears for this since this is a base timing adjustment. Just need a timing gun and adjust your distributor accordingly. The numbers I gave are from SR20DE engines but Nissan engines work pretty much the same. Almost all the SE-R/B platform Nissan guys do this as a freebie performance mod.
Don't know where you live but if it dosn't get extremely hot in the summer just get rid of your mechanical clutch fan. There is a secondary electric fan that turns on around 205 degrees so that should be adequate as long as your cooling system is in good shape. You could also add some water wetter just to be on the safe side if you remove the clutch fan. |

Lets stomp on others for trying to help. Maybe next time you should advance an email with your car's current stats before chopping.
If you were running a stock intake system and wanted more power this is a good idea. Besides when did the intake protion of your car stop being part of where your "engine" gets power? Or did I miss that post? |

Oh, what love...
Nismo, there's no such thing as free power. Gotta spend some $$$$ to get a little faster. Advancing your timing would be a maintenance item, as everyone else has said. Get rid of as much un-needed weight as possible. You're fine with intake & exhaust for now, we all start somewhere. As a matter of fact, most of us here will only have intake and exhaust. People, chill a little bit, what's with all the hostility? |
