Mating tranny under the car

I bought a silvia with a rod knock, pulled out the engine and swapped out the bearings. cyl 2 had bad bearings, but the crank shaft seems to be in decent condition. I sealed it all, torqued all the bolts and got the engine ready to put back in. I was making good time, pulled the engine out at 12am, after alot of running around for stuff it was ready to go back in by 6, after a few set backs it was going in around 11. By 1am I had to call it a night, My question is. what is the best way to mate the tranny while it's underneith the car? It seems like it's in the clutch but after putting the transmission in first the engine was still able to turn over. I tried pulling the engine away and it seems to be stuck. So it seems like the tranny is in but the splines are not lining up. the balance bar is hooked up from corner to corner, will it help to hook it up from side to side. such as exhaust manifold to intake manifold? Is there any reason why it would seem to be stuck? I've searched for a while without much answer, it seems as if I just need to keep trying until it finally seats. Thanks for any input.

Save your time and life and pull the tranny... and put it in together..... its really hard under the car and potential problems are just pain in the ass.

I finally got it in, for future reference. i found that looking through the hole for the clutch fork is the easiest way of lining it up.

I got everything hooked up and ready to go today, insured it while i was waiting for the gasket maker to dry. I was feeling good about the 2 Day bearing swap. however, the car will not start. the starter is pretty weak and makes terrible sounds but i don't think thats it. It seems as if i'm not getting any spark, and after pulling out a plug and noticing it was bone dry, i discovered i'm not getting spark or fuel. The only thing i'm worried about is alot of this wiring is modified, In other words, Its a rats nest under the dash. now when i first got the car, it started, but the lights were always on. even with the keys out, but now the lights are not on all the time. theres probably, not much you guys can really do without being able to see the car. just a few more trouble shooting tips would help, I have checked all my connections, tested every part of the engine for ground, and tested the coil pack harness for constant 12 volts. could this possibly be part of the cars alarm system? i found a key hole with a key in it under the dash, the key was turned to the On position.

only knocked above 2500rpm, crank looked pretty good. if it knocks i'll be ordering a new SR and building this one. I had one week to fix the knock and drive the car 1000kms north. i'll have a truck following me the whole way. I was just laying in bed when i realized the engine is not grounded to the chassis. (hard to sleep with a silvia so close to driving in your garage)
