Hello,

I'm looking for a good, reliable mechanic shop in the Los Angeles area who is affordable. I need to have some timing chain work done on a 91-93 240sx s13 KA24de.

Anyways, Corner3 Garage in Lake Forest. That's as near "dealer work" you could get without the price of the dealer.

if you have a KA, don't go to pit garage...they hate KA's..

Just got mines replaced a few days ago .
i baught all the parts i needed on my own and found a shop in paramount that only charged me $230 for a timing kit replacement on my twin cam.
Was very supprised on what they charged me for labor everyother shop wanted about $950 for labor alone .

Most other shops only estimate based o their experiences as of recent. new engined nowadays are a pain in the butt when working with timing chain. Shops that know our KA well should estimate about $600 at most

Thanks for all the input! I did find a shop who is looking into it. I may open a new thread on the recent developments.

It has all the symptoms of a timing chain off by a tooth e.g. sluggish, dist timing advanced all the way forward to run semi decent but mechanic says he confirmed timing chain is correctly placed after removing upper timing cover and valve cover to inspect.

Timing chain was moved up and backwards a tooth just to be sure but didn't help;
ECU was temporarily replaced, but didn't solve it;
Distributor was re-installed with gear forward ans backwards with no improvement;

It's odd as it all adds up to the chain being off of what I've read about this problem but seeming it isn't. If anyone has any experience with this before, let me know. Thanks.
