Battery and Brake lights one; replaced Alternator already

My battery light and brake lights stay on while the car is on.

The battery light is dim and hardly visable during the day and the brake light is full on.

I swapped a working alternator today and it still does the same thing and I have no idea what it could be.

Anyone have the same problem and solve it?

1990 240.

Brakes could be low brake fluid, battery could be a weak battery.

just the clarify. I am refering to the E-brake light on the dash not the rear brake lights.
Sorry for the confusion.

I have checked the brake level and it doesnt do anything

I have the same issue but, I have not solved it. My car also turns off if I don't keep my foot on the throttle. I'm going to check my TPS tomorrow as I have a feeling that might be the reason why my car won't stay on. I already cleaned the MAF sensor and had my battery tested as well.

The brake light on the dash is either low fluid, or the e brake ground making contact.

Your battery light is do to your alternator and NOT your battery. .. the light is triggered by a wire that connects directly to the alt that senses the Voltage output.

Did you replace your alt with a NEW/remand unit? or a used one? also what brand is it? since autozone alts are known to be shit right out of the box as well.

I'm pretty sure the issues are related to each other because both lights on my cluster and presumably the original poster's cluster came on at the same time rather than in separate intervals.

The brake light only turns when "grounded"
There are 2 grounding points, E brake and pressure differential switch (low fluid).

So unless a ground wire, from the alt warning light and brake light are exposed and touching each other,(which would be HIGHLY UNLIKELY) then there is no way for them to be related.

have either of you checked your brake fluid?

It doesn't have to be empty for the light to come on, just a little below the "half" mark

My fluid level is at the correct spot although, I will take another look just to make sure and be safe. I'm going to check the ground for the e-brake as well. I find it interesting that both the battery and brake lights appeared at the same time.

If all else fails, pull the cluster and make sure the wires are good behind it.

the master cylinder switch. check the two wires coming from your brake master cylinder, make sure they have continuity.

I checked the brake fluid level and it was fine. I'm going to take a look at the TPS and ground for the e-brake tomorrow.
