Can you use auto sensors in manual?
I just got my manual tranny and realized I only have one out of 3 sensors. I think I have the reverse-lamp sensor, but I'm missing the rest. I'm wondering if any of these sensors will be connected to my auto tranny and can be used with the m/t transmission. It is a 1995 S14 btw
- Neutral Position Switch - O.D. (5th) Position Switch - Reverse Lamp Switch Thanks! If not, are the sensors out of a S13 m/t the same? Can I buy these from Nissan? |

They're the same for all US manual transmissions. And you don't need any of them unless you're trying to keep the CEL off, in that case they must all be hardwired in anyway. You can just plug the hole with a pipe fitting.

Hey, I know the FSM says those sensors on the trans wont affect engine opperation, however I was looking over the flow charts in the trouble diagnostics section in EC, and it says the nuet position switch, and the VSS can possibly at some point control engine operation.
It was the section with the bubbles, where it was showing the VSS and neut position switch were "low probability items" for about 3 catagorys (engine hesitation, poor idle, and one other thing) Brings me to think at some point the ECM will use both sensors for engine operation. Dont think they will directly at all times control operation, however I think both sensors will talk to eachother durring decel, and posibly engine load. |

oh ok, so even if I get a manual ECU unless I wire these badboys in I will still get a CEL light. How exactly are these wired in anyway?
When I pull out my auto tranny will I have sensors that will plug into these? I'm a newbie when it comes to this. |

The automatic does not use any switches like the manual does anyway besides the VSS, which must be swapped for a matching one to a manual transmission. The switches are not wired already because your car is an auto. People assume you can plug a manual lower harness in and magically have all the wiring you need, the chassis isn't set up for wiring needed for a manual transmission. It all has to be hardwired if you want the CEL to stay off. Go read up about it. There's no need to ask anything else as it's all already there for you.

Anyhow, can you point me in a direction where it shows you HOW to 'hardwire' them? I've search around alot more than you think and I haven't found answers to my questions, thus why I'm posting now. I've had 10 posts since February 2008 so I know how to search for stuff. I'd like you to show me the way. |

No, but nice reading skills. Nowhere did I say "tear your car apart, then come ask questions".
There is a very detailed swap guide found on KA24DEvelopment.com ::. In fact, I'll go one step further and actually give you the direct link, S14 Tranny Swap - Electrical Connections Read that. You should have found it already if you had searched like you claim, it answers ALL your questions. So again, instead of wasting time with questions that already have answers, read the answers yourself. There isn't anything you'll need to ask if you bother to research it. Anyone with the skill to attempt this swap can do it completely off the guide above. EVERYTHING is detailed.

Car is a 1995 240sx swapping in a s14 tranny.
Ok, I'm good with all the position sensors. I understand how they will be wired. But I've got a few more questions now... #1 But now I'm confused about the speed sensor wiring. What does the speed sensor plug into, and how? I'm assuming that the wire running to my auto speed sensor will directly plug into my new s14 speed sensor, correct? #2 I seem to have a sensor on the top of the tranny. I think this is the CAS? Is it the same thing as the speed sensor? Same plug that connects to my auto CAS, now connects to the m/t CAS? #3 Will their be any unused plugs from the auto tranny that I will need to cut off or close off once I put in the m/t tranny? EDIT: Does anyone have a Nissan part # for this "boot": Do I even need it? |

The VSS is part of the lower harness, same plug. You won't change a thing.
CAS = cam angle sensor. The sensor on the bellhousing is the CPS, crank position sensor. It has nothing to do with speed. You will remove the entire harness from the auto unit, and just splice in the reverse lights. Again, how you read anything at all about this swap? All of this is covered to death and back.

Surprisingly I've been reading alot, it's just new questions keep popping up.
Right now I'm looking for Nissan part numbers for a few things. 1. That dust/weather boot in the picture I posted above. 2. Bellhousing bolts, and how many are needed? 3. Will I need any other bolts? lol |

I have that printed out. It doesn't say where any of the bolts go though...I'm not psychic and can guess where each bolt goes lol
So the first one are 4x bellhousing bolts? Still doesn't answer my question. Appreciate your help though |

Those are all bellhousing bolts.
You think the engine is bolted to transmission by just four bolts?

Damn, talk about being spoon fed. All your questions can easily be answered by reading the FSM. Quit being such a lazy fuck and do some proper research on the subject.

alright so i've put the swap into action.
my rear main seal (between tranny and engine) does not leak, but should i replace it anyway? also is this a good time to replace the oil pan gasket? Or should I just replace the rear main seal and leave the oil pan gasket? |
