For some reason my brake lights won't come on. I'm thinking it's the switch that turns them on because the night time driving lights are working just fine. Has anybody else had this problem?

that'd be a good place to start looking. i think you got this one sir. make sure it's plugged in and the wires aren't broken going to it. then make sure the green has power. if not check the fuse.

i had the same issue. one day they worked the next day they didnt. i would test both switches on the brake pedal. both mine were good it ended up being the fuse box circuit i had to run a whole new circuit to the lower switch. but first start off with testing the switches if thats not it test both plugs going to the switches both need a constant. if they dont then jump off a unused circuit in your fuse box.

when my car gets back ill take pics of what i had to do.

Thank you for the advice. There are two switches though? I have been under there twice already and I've only seen one. I've already checked the fuses and they all seemed fine so of course the switches are next. Does anybody have a volt meter I could borrow? Haha.

The second switch is the ASCD cancel switch. Not all cars have ASCD.

No need for a volt meter. I ran a stray wire from the battery to the green wire and the lights lit up. So this means it's either the switch or the power going to the switch then right?

Green wire?

The brake light wire is red/green from the switch all the way to the lamp assemblies. Power to the switch is a red wire from the inside fusebox. It's a very simple circuit, two wires total, one in, one out.

So instead of testing the circuit, you just randomly bypassed it without a fuse? Nice. Good way to burn the car to the ground. Test the red wire for power. Now test the red/green for power when the switch is depressed. Then, move to the lamps, is power passing through the plugs, then to the bulbs? Is the lamp assembly board grounded well?

This is basic electrical diagnostics, even people who can't change oil can do this.

The problem ended up being a missing fuse. Apparently the guy before me felt like it would be alright to run a car without brake lights. Oh well. All figured out. Except where the switch is depressed on the pedal. Is there a little rubber stopper on the pedal that covers that hole? As it is right now the switch isn't even touched by the pedal. Both the clutch and the brake have this problem? I'm heading to the junk yard today to see about finding something that will work.
