stock s13s should only cost $800 bucks, so we can all buy them and become the next ken block. =)
Its ludicrous to ask for more, I can only afford $800 so I can put the rest of my money on godspeed coilovers, weld the diff and xxrs. =) I saw that craigslist ad yesterday and knew some kids where gonna complain, i thought it was fare, good luck finding an unmolested S13. You can always buy one of these for cheap, im sure this is more up your alley.

i've been looking for about 14 different cars for the last 4 months before i finally bought a 96 240sx. i have been to look at more than a few modifed 240's and all of them were utter garbage, as in ruined frame rails and dented body panels. also all of the ones i walked away from shared this in common as well, they were owned and operated by younger "drifters". not one of them would i have paid half of what the buyer was asking after crawling underneath the car and checking the condition of the frame rails and overall health of the chassis.
i finally found an unmolested, all stock, all original, clean titled, 96 240sx base that i paid $3900 for. it runs good, it shifts smooth as silk, it has a crackless dash and more importantly the frame rails have not one dent or scratch on them and the chassis, including body work, is straight. now for the bad; along with a few other minor problems the rear shocks are shot, it has minor timing chain rattle and the clear coat on the roof is peeling. all of which, except the clear coat, will be taken care of in the next week. Just waiting for all the parts to arrive.

I agree tiggertsi, clean, stock s14s should be priced around 3-4k. I got mine for 3500. The real dilemma is when you throw money into the thing and can't get what it's worth to you back.

That car actually looks pretty clean and stock. If it was a clean title, I would gladly drop up between $3000 - $3,500 for it. With it being salvaged, I would not pay more than $2,500 for it (Yes, salvage title makes that much difference to me) and even then, I will not buy it.

Cars in general are the WORST items (Won't use the term investment since there's no real monetary gains) that you could throw money at. Seriously, if you're planning to modify a car, pay to play and enjoy it while you own it. |

and you'll never get what you think a car is worth after dumping a lot into it. sometimes, at least this is the case for me, an unmolested, clean titled, stock car is worth far more than a car that has been modified. some mods are just annoyances to the majority of people that are going to buy said car.

i remember i bought my first 240. similar to the one OP put up.. for $500. i guess times have changed.. i think most people that have been around 240's for a while got used to the cheap prices they were going for and the fact that you can find anything you wanted anywhere from forums to junk yards. now days the people new to the 240 scene dont mind paying the 2500 for stock cars people are asking because they never saw how cheap they used to be, so i dont blame the people selling it for that price because they know someone will pay it.. i know it wont be me though! lol

In Japan they made the S13 hatchbacks until 1998... They DID NOT produce any hatchbacks for the USA in 1994. If someone can get me the VIN from the vehicle in question I can confirm this through the Nissan FAST database.

1997 Nissan 240sx
This is the biggest joke of all. Flat black paint with what i'm assuming is the original Cobalt Green on the door jams, "SE" model with base model interior. This car is complete trash. |

yall are forgetting something about the cost and value of storage. Take a random SE model Kouki for instance. One sits outside for years and the other sits in a garage.
Today both are for sale. One was beat on by the sun and rain the other sat in a cool calm environment. They both cant be worth the same price? Obviously the one that sat in the garage is worth more. Now, imagine a single owner that also never drove the car. Say he bought it brand new, put a couple miles on it, THEN let it sit in the garage for 16 years. Now, isnt that car worth MORE than when he bought it originally? forget about color/transmission/5lug/etc. The price of the chassis has gone up because it came through to us from 16 years ago untouched. |

It depends on why it was salvage titled. Was it in an accident or theft? What was damaged during theft? What kind of accident? Did it roll over? Frame damage? Because an insurance company will salvage title a vehicle based on cost to repair vs a certain percentage of the car's price. That means the car isn't necessarily f*cked up just because of it being a salvage or rebuilt titled. In fact, the cheapskates should be looking into a salvage or rebuilt titled car. Especially since most these guys will ruin it anyway. Prestine condition cars, majority of the time, will come with a premium price. Specialty cars will hold value to certain people. I bought an e36 m3 sedan for $6k and sold it for $5.6k, 5 years later at 150k miles. How? I sold it to someone who was especially looking for exactly what an e36 m3 is. The general population would look at kbb and turn away but not the enthusiast who knows what to look for. Hell, e30 M3s cost more than e36 m3s these days. I don't know if a 240sx is a specialty car but I know that for the most part, only certain people search for a 240sx, so in a way, it is a specialty. That is why their prices stay up there. Basically, if you think the price is too high and others think it's fair, then the car isn't for you.

It's like if a girl got raped, would you call her a virgin still? Some people may consider her a born again virgin if she was celibate for a few years, but I think most people wouldn't. (I know this analogy sounds harsh to rape victims, but it's a fact by definition and how each person interprets things. I guess that's why I am an Atheist) |
