10k budget for drift car/ DD
Would a 240sx s13 or s14 be the best option for me since I would have a lot of money left over for parts/tires and repairs? The g35 could also be an option but they seem to be much heavier and harder to drift since I am a beginner. I want to stay away from 2 seater cars, otherwise I would consider a 350z. I was just wondering what opinions you guys have about this. I dont have to stay within the nissan family, it could be any brand as long as it can drift and be a dd.

Either way a g35 or 350z will be about 10-15k for something decent and you still need about 5k worth of parts. 240sx or Miata or my favorite AE86 Corolla are you best options for finding something decent and rust free in the 4k+/- range. If you want to replace everything just buy a decent rolling chassis and put in a sr20 or ka and put in whatever parts you want. If you go with a miata go for the 94+ with the 1.8 and bigger rear end. Also if its a AE86 make sure its not a SR5 but a real GTS.

s13 or s14, you can easily have a reliable 200-300whp car with some suspension work done and an lsd for 5-10k, in a car that's well under 3000 pounds. Plus the endless support on s-chassis and drifting. There's a reason everyone does it.
edit: it will suck more for daily driving than new options |

Nothing is legal in ca haha. To be honest try to have a DD and a drift car for track. YEARS back when I had a KA I had gotten 2 ref tickets .. On a STOCK car.

I would highly suggest to keep track intended cars on the track & have a daily on the side.
I don't know about your situation but everybody in my house has a place to go with their own cars. If my car isn't working, I've got no ride to school or work. You've got plenty of money to have a stock 240 that you can maintain AND another car to lightly mod to learn how to drift in. LSD, coilovers, & tires are pretty much all you need to learn. Hell, you could even go with a stock SR for a little more power and adjustable arms if you need to correct your suspension geometry which isn't necessary when learning how to track your car. And what's all this worry about the G being too heavy...it's pushing a lot more power than a S13 can. With a massive weight reduction, you're going to find yourself with a good platform. But gutting your car for a daily is so dumb. I'd rather have a presentable interior than save the extra weight for a daily driver/grocery getter. |

I am going to vote for s13 or s14 as well. Then you can spend some money on upgrades.

Go buy a 240 for your track car, cry about it being on jack stands months at a time, and then refer to this thread and read the warnings that people gave you. I guarantee you that 80% of 240 owners hate daily-ing their shit and wish they had another car to daily. If they say they're fine with DD their S-Chassis: they're either full of shit or have their heads so far up this trendy bullshit that they're in denial of the benefits of having a daily driver with virtually no problems that you'll find in a low car. The problem with the S-Chassis is that being on stock shocks/lowering spring suck & being low sucks too. |

I had my pop's Highlander for a week & having a stock car felt great. The best feeling is driving without worrying too much about speedbumps, potholes, certain roads that will rape your asshole on shitty low budget coilovers. A lot of S-Chassis trendy fanboys, like myself, can't truthfully say that unless their 4x4-ing their car which is ugly as a mother fucker. And like a lot of people in this thread, we were suggesting getting two cars for 10,000 dollars if he wants to track one of them. And since OP isn't for that, I'm providing insight on what USUALLY happens. There are exceptions. |
