I want to anodize my Work wheel bolts, the ones that holes the 3 pieces of the wheel together.

Anyone done this before? I figure this might be cheaper than buying a complete set of gold bolts from Work, if that is even possible.

im pretty sure the bolts work wheels are chrome plated steel . sometimes i will see rust ont the back sides of the bolt and nut .

i wouldnt do it personally , but you could buy gold chrome paint and mask off the wheel instead of taking the bolts out . especially since once you take the bolts out you arent supose to reuse them .

Once you take them apart there is a process of getting them back together.
Gaskets, truing the wheel, etc.
Probably more than its worth.

But yes, you could theoretically get them anodized.

if there aluminum you could, anadize the bolts, if there steel you can get them plaiting, i got a buddy that works on a plating house.

i dowith anodizing at work, but it has to be aluminum i can get most colors.

The bolts are likely steel. They have been for most 2/3 piece wheels I've come across.

It's pretty easy to anodize stuff yourself, it'll just take forever if you're doing it the ghetto way(battery charger).

Just buy new ones, most multipiece wheels use M7 bolts. You can pick up these up from a place called BFI. Alot of VW guys pick up parts from them when rebuilding their wheels. Here's the link

Maybe I should look into plating, to see how much that would cost as well. The only reason I am trying to keep the original wheel bolts is because they say Work on them, but if it is too much work or whatnot, then I'll probably just get the ones you posted in that link.

Ooooh, nice, might pick some of those up.

Fuck, thats a lot of money though. $1.20 a piece, and I'll use over 100 between the 4 wheels. maybe not. fuck.

I would just get your current bolts polished if you are trying to keep it on a budget

New bolts from Work Wheels gets pretty pricey just based on the quantity you'd need (for most of their wheels)

Either that or buy a similar grade bolt/nut from a specialty bolt store, but again that also depends on the design of the wheel

Would the bolts posted above work?

Do you guys have any other suggestions on possible ways to paint my bolts gold? The masking thing and painting them on the wheel may work, but that'd be a lot of work, and prob won't turn out that great.

take one out and take it to a hardware store
like a REAL hardware store. Find the oldest man that works there, he'll probably know exactly what it is on sight. Usually you can get good quality fasteners for an ok price at a good place.

edit: seconding calling/checking Black Forest, they're popular.

Called them and no one picked up. I also selected to buy 150 of them, but only 13 was registering each time. They also only offer UPS ground, from what I could tell while trying to check out.

Found a ebay retailer that sells them for about 200 shipped, in bundles of 136 pieces. I am going to see if he can sell me 150.
