I've basically figured out that I can't afford a turbo, and I like the idea of having the power all the time anyway, so what's the limit for a n/a ka24e? Also what am I going to be looking at as far as working on it? I think psi240 has a custom machined intake manifold... There's porting/polishing which will help, higher compression pistons, better cams, am I leaving anything out?

too bad JUN or some other company doesn't make internals for tha KA. That would be awesome. I don't think i'll do flywheel or pulley though... I've heard too many bad things about them. Btw... anyone heard any more about the new hotshot header coming out?

I've benn thinking about that question my self. If I ever did have the money to get a turbo, I'm not sure I'd get one. I've heard of too many headaches. Here is the list I came up with. This is deffinately going for broke, and I think I left no stone unturned. Pistons, Rings, head bolts, head gasket, lighten crank, rods, pins, ported head, valves, ported intake manifold, bigger throttle body, cams, cam gears, injectors, fuel rail, fuel pump. Throw in the usual JWT ECU, CAI, cat-back, headers, Cobra MAF. You've got to be close to 200 at the wheels. I don't think any one of these mods by it's self would do a hole lot but rather how they work in harmony. Similar to the JWT ECU dillema, It costs $600 to get maybe 7 hp at the wheels. Sure if you only have 4 mods. It's alot of work and maybe the final cost will match a turbo kit. But I don't think you would have the reoccuring problems that tend to come with a turbo set up. Hope I shed some light on the subject.

cool, yeah, there's some stuff in there that I hadn't thought of. Another thing about the price is, with a turbo you've gotta go all out right away, but if I go N/A most of these mods are like 500 per mod, so I can do it in stages.

You can do an ECU, dont' forget about that.
What I think is that you'll be spending more money on doing all this stuff than you would on a turbo set-up. Think about it. Run natural for a while and save money if you can. The limit in horsepower for a naturally aspirated is I believe around 220 or so. It won't get better than that. I've read this in numerous articles. |

yeah 220 tops for NA is not good enough. my goal is like 250 rwhp so i cant do that NA, but i dont wanna go turbo. So, it looks like my only option is a supercharger, I hope UH comes through with a good setup.

Thats what I think. I'd love 300 @ wheels, but 220 thats almost 100 over the stock 135 @ the wheels. I live right out side Boston, and in my opinion thats enough. I'm not in to street racing cuz there are too many idiots that want to race and they start cuttin you off, and generally it's too populated. You can hit up the highway but triple digets in MA gets you automatic loss of licence (not sure how long) and jail time NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I guess I'll have to contain my self untill I can get to a track.

Yeah, I think we pretty much covered everything. I say 220-230 AT THE MOST and that is if you're one lucky rich... bbbbboy. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> But wait, you've got a SOHC. Oooh, I now go down to 200 even.

the only way to know what kind of HP u'll crank out is with doing these mods even if two ppl with the exact same mileage and wear on they're engines did all this work they'd still have different final results

What is the difference between th ka24de and ka24e? Even if you have SE (dohc and 16 valves) the ka24e is the better option? </td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'> SE has nothing to do with it, Gold240SE. The KA24E was the engine for the 89-90 240sx. Single overhead cam, also 12 valves. The DOHC engine, known as the KA24DE was in the 91-94, also in the 95-98 with some a few changes. (Edited by Kid Zelda at 12:30 pm on Nov. 14, 2001) |

Well, first of all, you'll have even piping for your whole exhaust. Second, they promise a horsepower gain of 8. So, that is also an advantage. Your engine breathes easier...

Greddy stainless steel header is also much lighter than the stock cast iron. Only problem is that Greddy header seems to break alot...
Some people said to use flex-tubes to eliminate this problem. |

ok forgive me if im wrong, cause i dont spend alot of time reading about KA tech (im alot more interested in SR, RB, CA, FJ, and GA tech), but couldnt you pull the head off a KA24DE? thats what, 20 crank hp, a little more torque, and the ability to use all of the aftermarket parts available for 91+ cars. this sounds like a place to start.
i've seen entire KA24DE engines (poor neglected children thrown out in favor of what the car should've had in the first place) with transmissions for sale in the $400-750 range, fully running. The head couldnt be that expensive at all, could it? check your local yard, they're sure to have one somewhere, considering this engine was found in other USDM nissans. if you can find it for under $250, that's your best mod option in my opinion. nothing else you can get for the SOHC engine that costs that much will give you power in this neighborhood, and again, it should let you use all the 91+ parts, which is the biggest advantage in my opinion. then again, i could be a total idiot, and they're not even interchangable. hope i've been helpful <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> |

s13grl, how's ur b/f's greddy header holdin' up? would u recommend getting one still? </td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'> Chokudori is right; they do break without the flex pipe. My boyfriend wasn't able to find a 3" flex pipe at the place where he got it welded (cost him $10 to get it fixed), and I'm not sure whether he looked elsewhere, I can't confirm this. I think the guy at the shop told him that no one makes one, I can't say for certain. Regardless, if they made GReddys for my car, I would get them. But I'm getting Pacesetters in two weeks. So... |
