Pros and Cons 2JZ and RB series

Sup guys, just got a new job and looking to go all out on a build, going single turbo.

Can someone tell me pros and cons of the two motors? RB wise, 25 or 26 converted to 2WD

As far as parts availability, price, etc.

Yeah sure ! We could just read half a dozen forums and make a summary of it just for you. No problem.

My fees usually start at 780$/day (blame euro for being high these days), i'd say an overview would cost you 4 days and an in depth analysis would be more like 15.

Which one do you want ?

I don't understand why people can't read and make an educated decision based on their findings...

Disclaimer: I have no personal experience with either engine. But I have lerked these forums quite a bit while doing research. (The search function is your friend)

From what I understand summed up into a really small sentance: 2JZ > RB26
As far as price wise, I honestly don't know. I know that they are both expensive. The RB was never officially released in the united states, and the 2JZ is a wanted criminal. (I read somewhere that it's better to get the JDM 2JZ) Depending on which car you put the engines in, you will have to do more or less modifications to your fuel lines and such.

Long story short... Super Charged LS1. Pretty easy to get in the united states, and good power all through the RPM range.

But you should use the search function.

2Rb ALL THE WAY! Look man, if you are going to do anything swap wise, you do the 2jz + rb hybrid swap.

That way you get the best of both worlds!!!!!!!!

2jz block with RB26 head!

US spec 2JZGTE > 1JZ or RBXX.

Why? 2JZ is available in the states so its easier to find parts for it. YOu can go to Autozone and pick up a starter for it. Intake and exhaust is flipped so you dont have to worry about turbo to brake MC/steering shaft clearance.

Down side, can be pricey if you're looking for the Getrag transmission...

2JZ FTW, it shouldn't be too expensive if you get it with an R154 transmission (MK3 Supra) or use a CD009 (350Z 6speed). If you want a V160 (Mk4 supra 6speed) it will be more expensive.

Get a V8 ... both 6 cylinders weight a ton and a half and are ultra long. They both completely mess up the weight balance and there is no way to get past that, unless you are a hell of a fabricator and bring the engine 3 foot rearward.

But you dont care as all you do is post trolling threads ...

I wanted something that still sounded stock, or somewhat like a 4 cylinder.

I have already looked at an LSx swap, but there are too many of those.

Not sure if you have been around a 2J with an exhaust....does not sound stock at all. The 2J has a particular sound to it and if you add bolt ons and some work it does not sound like an SR at all.

Both swaps have become super popular and very little is left to uniqueness today. Pick the setup you like and go with it. I can tell you from experience....going with a 2J is like night and day compared to an SR once you start digging in. You wont believe how much some things cost for the 2J especially if you buy quality parts. If you can do the labor yourself you will save yourself a lot of money on either swap.

Keep in mind as stated above, the 2J parts are usually a bit easier and at times cheaper to get than RB parts. Not extremely knowledgeable on the RB 25/26 setups but I know with a good tune and a few parts the 2J can produce some insane numbers. Buddy pushed out 750+rwhp on his completely unopened JDM 2J with a 7175 turbo. Drives it at 500+hp daily without any concern

I like 2j because it comes with candies. Different kinds depending on the year.

The last 94 2j I opened up came with candy canes (which I do not like) but it also had some good peanut butter cups and assorted mints.

Then I got a 97, and whoa let me tell you, that thing was FULL of marshmallow covered nuts. dear @@#*& those were delicious. And at the bottom (in the oil pan) there were chocolate coated cherries. MMMmm cherry. The natural kind too, not the fake aftermarket stuff.

2j is cheaper to replace and more displacement. /thread

Don't blow all the money through a shop to build you a car. Save the cash while you can, travel and enjoy yourself, and then when you build up enough spare cash (and cash to live) slowly build into a car.

With that also said, if you need to ask the differences or even ask the forum to weigh on either, then you're in over your head. Just keep it in mind when the first thing goes wrong, your new job suddenly disappears overnight, and there you are stuck with a wad of parts and a incomplete car. Not saying it will happen, but just something to plan for. I think all to often people get the first smell of 'new cash' and they start living at a level beyond their means.

I've had both rb and jz. I loved my rb so much and it never let me down. Same with my jz though. They're both great ass motors and neither one will let you down. Rb swap into my 240 was cheaper than jz though
