17x9 FN and KTS fitment... They are touching when I turn...
After about a year of the car being down I had it aligned and drove it around for the day...
On the front, when I turn the wheels or go up or down a driveway, I think the front tires are touching the springs... I pulled off the wheels to see if there was any visible "scratching" but there wasn't any... My alignment settings are: -2.5* camber - front zero toe - front stock caster -2* camber - rear 1/8" toe in - rear Wheel/tire/suspension 17x9 +20 5Zigen FN01RC Bridgestone RE01-R 245-40-17 all around KTS coilovers How do I fix this?... Where did I mess up? |

Haha, everyone suggests dori dori tire sizes.
Keep the 245s, just get a 5mm spacer. 9j +20 is right at the border for fitting with some coilovers. You might even want to get a bigger bolt-on spacer so you can run bigger tires in the future and to account for flexing on the track, but then you run into fender clearance issues.

245's on 17x9...that's a minor sidewall stretch. I doubt your rubbing tire to spring.
Assuming you've already done a visual to see if the tire touches spring during varied wheel angles... Check the sheet metal...not your fender. The actual fender well arch transition area...the most problematic area on a dumped S-chassis or one that's running fatties up front. It's the corner where the OEM filter box is located. Inspect both sides. Going up/down driveways creates extreme suspension articulation especially if you're not running much preload. The closer your wheels are turned to full lock the smaller the tolerances become. If your turning right, the driver tire tolerance to metal decreases which increases the chance of rubbing. During high speed cornering this causes the outside front to lock-up...scary shayte! My friend and I are gonna restructure these areas so there is zero interference between tire and metal during hard cornering. But, the restructuring will require relocating the coolant reservoir on our S14's. Hopefully it is just a spacer issue. Hopefully it's a front bumper rubbing issue (which I've encountered as well). Hope it's not tire rubbing fender well. Good luck troubleshooting. |

use the slotted upper bolt on the kts lower bracket and angle the hub out from the shock more.
if that doesn't work you need spacers. alignment has nothing to do with strut clearance. |

I was just gonna say this, you can do this to gain more clearance between the wheel and coilover. I have KTS coils and am running 17x9.5 +18 235/40 all around with no rubbing problems what so ever |

A 3mm or 5mm spacer should do the trick. Something like this: http://store.racinglab.com/whmalialwhsp1.html Its well within the limits of the stock studs. Just retorque your lugs every so often. |

I am going to pick up a 5mm spacer but I am even more confused right now with the problem...
Today I went under the car and turned the wheel from side to side to see if anything was touching and it wasn't... I looked on the inside of the fender, wheels, suspension for signs of rubbing and didn't see anything... The sound that it makes is exactly like the sound when you lower your car off a jack and the suspension "settles" into place... That sound of the coils getting into place... One thought I had is that could it be related to how tight the collar is that holds the spring up... Maybe if I tighten or loosen it the sound will go away? I am planning on taking the car to the track this weekend and don't want any surprises... Here are some pics of the clearances... |

Why don't you take the wheel off and look on the frame for rubbing. That's where it sounds to be coming from. If you haven't hammered the fender lip flat, then it could be rubbing from there.
All that said, I'm assuming; and by the looks of it you got rid of that granny liner. Maybe your ball joints are bad.
