Computer Problems, Please Help

So, i let my sisters use my desktop and when i get home one day it would start up windows, but about 15 seconds into uploading windows the computer auto restarts itself. So either i have a really bad virus or my hard drive is fried, which i hope its the first option. If anyone can help me, i would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

It may just be your power supply, how old is the computer and what brand? A lot of the time these restarts can be power supply related or motherboard, faulty ram can cause restarts as well but usually you'll get BSOD if it was the ram.

If you have a spare PSU give that a shot.

Can you stay logged into safe mode? When starting up windows hit F8 and load into safe mode. If you can stay logged into that version of windows then it is most likely a virus. If not then it is probably hardware related, and my first guess would be the HDD.

Ditto, I was gonna recommend this basically. If it doesn't boot in safe mode then its hardware and not software.

MBR might be tweaked from a virus from porn your sister was looking at.

what is the last screen you see? you can try tapping f8 and boot into last known good config. they may solve the issue. if not try f8 and go into safe mode and disabling all start up programs using the msconfig tool.

I have had that problem twice before. Once the fan on the power supply died and it was overheating obviously.

The other time, I had a defective motherboard (Don't buy Gigabyte mobos). I think it was overheating or shorting out or something but I cant remember exactly.

I've had the same problem once before but on my PC. What I did to fix it was, take my HDD to a friend's house and reformatted my HDD, then went back home and installed a fresh WinXP OS.

You can attempt to boot off the windows cd and do recovery mode. Do you see any hard drives during boot up?

so after some researching i found out how to get the "blue screen", the screen says that the error and why the computer restarts itself is "unmountable boot drive". i have found that i need a windows xp pro cd to fix this problem. Which brings me to another problem, due to my father upgrading to vista, he gets the bright idea to throw xp away. Anyone have a copy?

yeah, vista crashes a lot. If it was the powersupply you'd smell it or your sister would have previously smelled a bad dusty burning smell. A computer sometimes shuts itself down to defend itself from something it doesn't like. Unplug all devices (printer, wireless keyboard, mouse, keyboard, everything. everything but pc and monitor). My guess is that you might need a new mouse. Seen this a million times before, especially from a led/wireless mouse.
