electrical help!!!
To whoever may find and read this, any help is appreciated! I was driving and my car suddenly shut off. I have been having a problem with a hesitation during light throttle as well. With these two things and the fact that my fuel pump was not priming after my car died out, I figured I had a bad fuel pump and that was the cause of the problems I have been having. I replaced my fuel pump with a new one- I am having the same problem. When I turn the car on, there is no sound coming from the back of my car where the pump is.
The engine is cranking the way it does if you remove the fuel pump relay- it goes and goes but does not turn over. I have changed out relays, replaced the pump, checked the fuses.- I don't know what to do next. One other thing was the clip that connects the fuel pump unit to the chasis in the back. I looked at it when I went to unplug it and it seemed like it was melting. I crimped the wires together, the way they would be in the male and female connections- but i have still been having the same problem after doing that. Please Help. My car is: 1990 240sx hatch w/ a CA18det |

sounds like you have a short somewhere...
get yourself a multimeter with some long leads, find a copy of the FSM and test all of the wiring in the circuit between the battery and the fuel pump. unplug a section at a time and test connectivity across the line as well as connectivity to ground (there should be none... unless you're testing a ground line) once you find the section with the problem... replace it. Unless someone knows a common place where the fuel system wires short out this is really the only way. If you're through you WILL find the problem, you know the ignition works, you can assume the pump works, you know the relays and fuses are good, you know the battery is good, the only thing left in the system is the wiring. Good Luck |
