Hehe...no, there's no screw for the fuel.

Start by checking for boost/vac leaks...pressure test the intake and intercooler.

If that's OK, then check fuel pressure, make sure it's within spec.

Then the MAF wiring...are you using a stock MAF, or a Z32 with an S-AFC?

Etc, etc...

Blue or black/grey smoke?

Blue, you have something blown somewhere, turbo seals, rings, valve seals ect..

If it is black/gray (fuel) see if you have a adjustible fuel pressure regulator that is atached to the front of the fuel rail that may have came with your swap (my RB did). I put a gauge on it and checked it and it was way high, like 60psi at idle. I don't know what the pressure should be set at for a SR, but a search should do you good. I saw it posted about two weeks ago somewhere on here. If that is not the case, I would go to the ECU and check and see what codes are showing up.

i see a little oil on my intercooler. when i put it together i saw that it had a lot of oil on it so i cleaned it off. but now i see that its some there again. so i think it sould try a pressure test. how do i do that. with what tool. i have no adjustable fuel pressure regulator. my exhaust is blackish grey. im using a stock maf. its my first sr, and my 2nd 240 so im kinna new to nissan ,and piston motors in general. ive been driving rx7's for a long time, and those had a screw that u could turn to adjust the fuel. thanks alot guys

mmmm, I would say that if there is oil in the IC and the piping, check the down pipe/back of turbo for oil too, along with shaft play, if it wiggles more than a RCH (red c*nt hair) you should probably see that as rebuild/ upgrade time. But if not and the smoke is just fuel, check the codes, and/or go to the store and pick up some mass airflow meter cleaner spray. Don't use anything else, or it will eat it up. That is about all I can think of.

Dumb question, they are stock sr injectors right? Another friend of mine got a swap with 550's already in it. woot woot for freebies!

Oh, and for the pressure check, you gotta kinda make your own. PVC pipe, a hose coupler, air hose fittings and a really good pressure regulator on your air compressor. I made one and it cost me about 10 bucks. Pull off the MAF, put in your plug/adapter you just made, tighten it down. make sure you set the pressure in the hose of the air compressor before you attach it to your fitting so you dont blow stuff up, I would recomend 10-15 psi. Connect everything and listen for leaks, and maybe some soapy water too. Hope this helps!

one of the reasons why your sr might be running rich.

spark plugs are out and the O2 sensor sends to the ecu that it needs more fuel. that might be the cause. so one of the spark plug might be out.

those aer very good ideas, ill try thoes. and yes there was oil in the ic piping. a friend said that it could be the oil return line on the turbo that causing the oil in the pipes. well im gonna start on it and see what i can come up with. thanks again.

maybe, if the return line is plugged, it may force the oil out the turbo seals, but more than likely, it needs to be rebuilt

Never seen a clogged oil return - it's a rubber hose that goes straight down to the pan. Do you have an oil catch can attached? The stock motor should come with one, it's the black box lookin thing on the back of the motor above the exhaust manifold. If you dont, and the valve cover has some hose connectors up top that arent connected to anything, that could be why you're smoking.

Anyway, if it actually is fuel, and you haven't replaced and gapped the plugs, do that first. Stock boost, 28 thousanths (that's .028") or so gap. Someone already asked up higher here, but did u check the ECU for codes? We're also assuming you don't have the 2500rpm rev-cut from bad MAF wiring...

Yea, I had never heard of it either, but I had a smoking issue with my first set of turbo's I got from Jim Wolf. They were brand new (thats what they said), and they tried telling me that my return was clogged and that was forcing oil through the turbo. I thought that they were full of shit, and turns out they were. One of the turbos I got wasn't right. They gave me new ones and poof, no more smoke!

damn i found out that i have a black top. it just has a red cover on it, but with that said,..... it has the red top ecu do u think that could be the reason that it is runnin so fkuced up. i changed the o2, plugs, tdc the motor, adjusted the cas, rerouted the vac lines, removed the smog stuff and it actually runs a little worse. damn its a trip, i pulled the afm and it reved past 2500 rpms. the motor shakes all over the place, and when i rev it i can hear the motor knocking. im a little pissed and fellin that today was kind of a waste. hopefully tomarrow will be better. lata.

Don't know that much about the sr20 in detail, but that just doesn't sound right. I would assume that even though you are running a red top ecu on a black top, it wouldn't be that bad. can you tell what type of knock it is? like a light knock that would signal a lean condition, or heavy knock that you can feel that might show that the motor could be toast?

its the rocker arms or valves or lifters, its one of those. i hope its not blown, i dont think that is. it ran better before i did all of that to it. and it wasnt knocking before either......... one thing that i noticed is that the way the cam marks are angeled when i tdc. the #2 line on the crank is not on its mark when the cams are the way that thet are suposse to be. its killin me.

This is about as far as I can go, i really don't know that about cam timing and such, let alone for a SR20. The only other suggestion I can make is set it to stock, and maybe one of the other friendly people on here will come over and let you temporarly use their ecu for your motor just to see if it runs right. The black top vs. red top come to find out are picky when it comes to the Power FC and you have to order the PFC for year/black/red top motors. So that just may be your problem.

Any other people have any ideas????

ok, ive been trippin over the cam thing, and have been so wrong. so i found the correct position that they were suposse to be and put the cas in properly, and it runns alot smoother. the plug to my afm i was told looked like it was in bad shape due to the grey covering over the wires being chopped up. i was told to replace that. then i found a major vac leak in the intake manifold due to a bad gasket. so im gonna change those things and see how it goes. im starting to feel better about my car now, and its not eating up all my gas anymore either. thanks alot for ur help, lata.

i found my old thread lookin for a timing write up. so i thought id hit u guys with an update. well here it goes. when i put the timing at 15 degrees, it knocked like crazy. it came with a bad rod bearing, but when the timing was retarded it didnt knock. so i thought it thats how it was suppose to be. the bearing had already been replaced with an over sized bearing. i pulled the motor, and now its sittin in the garage. got another long block, and now im rollin. my computer was bad thats why i was able to rev past 2500rpms.

All that stuff is is just like 220w gear oil. At least, its about the same viscosity. More or less the theory behind those NO-SMOKE types of additives is to thicken up the oil, making it harder to get past seals and what-not where leaks are common. They do nothing productive.

Fix what is leaking, don't rely on a $5 solution.

smoke screen

I'm just wondering if any one has my kind of problem. My problem is that when i come to a complete stop at a traffic light my car shoots out a GANG of SMOKE from the exhaust. But when I start moving, the smoke goes away. Could it be my valve seals, exhaust gaskets, or something else? And the smoke that comes out looks like blue smoke. Can someone help me out.
