HyperGear Turbochargers and high flows for Rb25det Skyline
Hi every one from the Zilvia forms. I'm Stao from HyperGear turbochargers in Australia, I believe some of members here are regular readers of our posts in Skylines Australia forms. I'm here to introduce our selves and post updates of our latest turbocharger innovations. Our work are mostly based on Nissan RB engines.
We spent number of years in building and trailing all sort of standard highflow profiles and customized turbochargers. They are based on a R33 Rb25det manual skyline. The test car is a 1993 model R33 GTST with a Rb25det motor in it. This car has: CP forged 9:1 (standard compression) Pistons Brae exhaust manifold Hypergear 50mm external gate 850cc Power Enterprise injectors Brae 3inch turbo back exhaust Super Tech Valve springs. OSGiken twin plate clutch 4inch metal induction pipe with Pod filter 600x300x75mm PWR intercooler kit Every thing else that are not mentioned are standard. Most controlled results are based on this car with above setup. Internally gated results are obtained using the same setup with external gate disconnected. Standard Highflowed turbochargers are brand new chras fitted with larger and steel made wheels using factory compressor and turbine housings that are machined to suit. There is a limitation however, mainly due to the size of the factory turbine housing. We usually see around the 240rwkws with 21U turbine housing and 260rwkws with OP6 (R34) turbine housing. The KWs to HP conversion is KW x 1.34 = HP Please note the the dyno configuration used in Australia is in SAE2004/J607/1349 while the US dyno configurations is in DIN or older SAE. Our dynos usually reads a fractionally lower in percentage. The average local standard R33 result on factory turbocharger using stock exhaust manifold running 11psi is 200rwkws on pump 98: Standard high flow based on Factory R33 turbo housings on stock exhaust manifold: [email protected] Standard high flow based on Factory R34 turbo housings on stock exhaust manifold: 263rwkws @ 17psi We can also supply our billet SS profile high flow. As for the latest SS2.5 high flow using standard R33 turbohousings: 341rwkws @ 21psi on E85 fuel (98 Power = E85 Power - 40kws) The most bolton turbochargers built by us for Rb25det skylines are the SS1PU, SS2, and G3. Those are direct bolton replacement for Rb25det with Nissan 6 bolt IWG pattern dump. Hard induction pipe is required using those turbochargers. Controlled results Internally gated: SS1PU is a super responsive turbocharger, excellent for street driving. Peek of 283rwkws, peek 22psi on pump 98 fuel. full boost by 3400rpms. SS2 is an larger billet wheeled turbocharger using with good response and street drive ability. It maxed at 310rwkws @ 21psi of boost on Pump 98 fuel and 350rwkws with E85. G3 make about 300rwkws on P98 fuel with 20psi of boost: Controlled results Externaly gated SS1PU 322rwkws on 22psi E85 fuel: ATR43SS2 374rwkws on 22psi, E85 fuel: ATR43G3 375rwkws on 22psi E85 fuel: Most of our turbochargers are built for street driven cars, so we will try to not create big HP and laggy turbochargers. We also have hundres of dyno readings from customers with various setups, which I'm happy to post up for any one whom's after a reference. I will upload the latest developments and results as our project progresses, and happy to answer questions in relating to our turbochargers as well as general Skyline modifications. +1 on these guys, I bought High Flow Turbo 2 years ago. Love it cuz I dont need to fab anything to make it work, Bolts right up to all Factory items.
I only got to run it for a few months and never got tuned yet, I still have it and when I get back from Japan I'm gonna get tuned on it. Here some pics Comparison between the Stock R33 turbo and the Hypergear R33 Turbo Stock Hyper Gear Most noticeable difference is the Exhaust Wheel The craptasic Ceramic wheel CHRA is replaced with a Steel turbine wheel Stock Hyper Gear

Thanks for the support. The latest high flows use larger compressor and turbine wheels. those are capable of making about 10% more in terms of power. How ever the factory exhaust housing and exhaust manifold are limitation factors when chasing big HP.
Also what sort of fuel do you guys use in the states? the usual 91, 95, 98, 100 and E85 (ethanol blend fuel equivalent to 105) as what we have in Australia? |

Our sponsored R33 GTST do enter tracks often. Here are some footages from Sand down race track Melbourne Australia. The car is full standard in street class. It has an high flowed turbocharger just like Sileighty_85. Car is currently pulling 265rwkws on E85 fuel.

Also because the limitation of standard turbine housing we made our own T3x .82 rear housing that has the 6 bolt Nissan dump pattern. So it is a direct bolt on rear housing internally gated. That housing can support to about 280rwkws mark with supporting mods on an internally gated factory manifold setup, tested using an Australian Dyno.
This turbine housing can be used on all of ATR43 series turbochargers as well as the PU high flows. which mean a donor turbo is not required. The ATR43SS2 and G3 internally gated result are from obtained using this turbine housing. Also add in result of our PU high flow, running above rear, internally gated on factory exhaust manifold with supporting mods. |

updating with some results:
This is a customers R33 GTST fully stock engine, using the ATR43SS2 turbocharger as a bolton replacement for factory blown turbocharger. It is using stock exhaust manifold internally gated. PFC, and 550cc injectors. Final result of 297rwkws @ 20psi and 278rwkws @ 17psi. |

The usual price for high flowing is $960AUD including braided oil line. How ever sending a turbocharger from USA to Australia then have it sent back is an expansive process.
I recommend of buying an Bolton ATR43 series turbocharger out right, those has the 6 bolt OEM pattern in the back, uses factory water lines and oil drain. It will require a hard induction pipe and bit of silicon hose to connect the outlet to the factory cooler piping. The usual turbochargers used for a Rb25det is the ATR43SS1PU, ATR43G3 and ATR43SS2. How much power are you chasing for? |

I can build you a highflowed turbocharger based on a factory R33 turbine housing and a .60 comp housing with 3inch inlet and 2inches outlet, for the same price as the high flow.
It will require a 3inch hard induction pipe with a proper pod filter and a 2 to 2.5 inches silicon hose for the factory cooler piping. If will save you from sending a stock turbocharger back n forward. I usually fit a 14psi actuator, how ever I can fit a 7psi actuator if required. Price for some thing like this is $1100 AUD including postage to USA. |

Result of our recent high flowed R34 OP6 turbocharger. This turbocharger is using our upgraded highflow profile.
Tuned by Toshi on a Mainline roller dyno, made 270rwkws on 18psi of boost with factory actuator pump 98 fuel. By judging the shape of both boost and power curves this turbocharger is capable of running higher boost then what it has been set to. at 22psi is should be getting very close to 300rwkws mark. |

Dyno results from a high flowed R33 turbocharger:
Manual 95 model R33 GTST skyline with intercooler, turboback exhaust, pump 98 fuel and tuned by Toshi. 241rwkws at 15psi, factory injectors maxing out. |

Some update with the standard profile R33 high flows. Did some tuning on E85 and it made 320rwkws on 22psi of boost, That is internally gated on stock exhaust manifold.
This turbocharger is identical to our ATR43G2.5 turbochargers, they are bolton to stock manifold, dump, water, and oil drain. which we can sale them to you out right for $860 AUD including braided oil line + Shipping to US (about 150AUD) |

I like the numbers of the last one you posted. I was planning on going holset but for simplicity I'll probably go with one of these. I'm looking for 400-480hp with fullboost as early as possible. What kind of pricing would one be? I would love a direct Bolt-on. Mods are 1000cc injectors, aem standalone and E85. Also. How much would it cost to to send you my turbo? Not the pricing of shipping, just the labor. Not sure if ill send mine, just curious at my options! Thanks!

For a bolton unit in this HP range the ATR43SS2 would be a top choice. The price on those is $1250AUD each including braided oil line. This turbo bolton to factory manifold, dump, water, and oil. you will need a proper 4 inches induction pipe and a 2.5 inches 90 degrees silicon hose
Recent result from this turbocharger on E85 fuel as a direct bolton turbo on stock manifold internally gated: 321rwkws @ 19psi and this one is from using pump 98 fuel, similar setup as above with factory exhaust manifold, internally gated as a oem replacement turbocharger: If you are looking for around the 260~300rwkws (350~400) mark I would be recommending the SS2.5 or a standard high flow. Those are $850AUD including oil line. |

Damn I'm liking the dyno of the atr43ss2. Ill probably be ordering one this winter. I was thinking about adding an external wastegate some point down the road, would you recommend that for this turbo or keep it internally gated? I plan to add it into the stock manifold.

Stock log manifold is very restrictive. Add external gate to it definitely help with top end power and torque. You can order it internally gated just disconnect the internal gate and run external gate from the exhaust manifold for external gating, Or plumb the vacuum hose back on to the internal gate and disconnect the external gate when you do need to run it internally gated.
I guess it all depends on your local road regulations as in Australia having External gate on a road car is illegal. Here are some information relating to stock exhaust manifold restrictions. All three runs were based on the ATR43SS2 turbocharger: Pink is factory exhaust manifold, and the other two are two types of aftermarket exhaust manifold made by different locals. As we can see that stock exhaust manifold run the most amount of boost making the least amount of power, but had the best response While the thin red (Brae manifold) made the most power with least amount of boost. Also notice the change in torque curve after exhaust manifold change, Resulted in much stronger torque in upper rev range. So if an external gate can be fitted onto the factory exhaust manifold then that will ease a portion of the restrictions, which should result in a 10~15kws gain in power and more solid top end torque.

Some evaluation results based on our OP6 R34 GTT high flows.
I've also made some plumbing for external gating through factory exhaust manifold and seemed to work pretty well: On E85 fuel using factory exhaust manifold: Internally gated maxed at 345rwkws Externally gated maxed at 376rwkws Take 40kws off peek power for Pump 98 results. Dyno video footage:
