An opinion on options: SR20 or RB25
Now... I have a problem, well more a decision to make.
I currently have a blacktop sr in my fastback, but i recently acquired (out of pure luck) an RB25 mostly complete... for free. I say mostly complete because it is missing the wiring harness, turbo manifold, and turbo. BUT it does have the GReddy Intake Manifold, the 5speed trans, and the stock ecu. Would you, in my position sell the SR and all the things for the SR (complete swap... i mean complete. FMIC to test pipe, all the way back) for the funds needed to complete the RB swap for my car. Also, would you go all out and rebuild this rb while outside of the car? Mind you time is not a problem as i have a second vehicle for a daily.. and money wouldn't be either as i have gobbs of time to get the money i need lol. This really is an opinion on what to do thread, and has no real technical value what so ever... but i wasn't sure where else to place this thread. |

I would sell the RB, maybe even part it out, and build your SR. The SR is already in the car...why take it out?
RB swaps are not that bad, but they aren't a direct drop in. You will need to buy motor mounts and you'll have to track down a harness. If you have a good running motor in your car now, then why change it? That's just my opinion. |

I'm with Karl on this one, it would be better to sell the RB since the Sr's already in the car and running. You could get a decent bit of money for the trans alone. The you could buy some goodie's for the SR

If time and money are not issues keep both, build the RB the way you like it, get a shell and slap it in.

sell the RB like he said, it's gonna take lots more time and money to finish the rb, sell it and invest the money into the sr and pocket the rest, a fast car with money in your pocket is much better than two fast cars.

Matt you put way too much thought in motors. I think that is tennspeed working on ya, the no 2j no care mentality on there is really starting to make me sick. It even saddens me to see 2 of the most talented drifters ditching their stock ka's. Im sure you know who Im talking about. Im not saying that against them though, I cant blame them for for wanting more power because they do diserve it and have got their skills to the level to where they can highly benefit from the power. I have no room to talk either. I have way too much money tied up in my sr in comparison to the suspension on the car but this next season that will have a much needed makeover.
If you want to spend good money on your engine, do it with good name brand parts that are going to add relibality and get a good tune, not a freakn jwt or enthaply. Im more than willing to discuss any options or anything like that you want. You still have my number. I hope you get this thing done in time so you can be driving this season instead of flipping people off out my passenger window, taking vids of me making fun of wheels while writing on mine with a sharpie, and taking pics of cars drifting. For real, just throw a t28 on there, stock manifold, 440cc injectors, q45 maf, fmic, 3" down pipe-testpipe-catback, walbro pump, and a good tune. Guess what, its going to spool fast, make decent power, be reliable and not cost too much. I think all of these engines have advantages and disadvantages, when it gets down to it though, an engine is an engine and it is what you make of it. Oh, and here is matt (leeroy) |

I am giving thought to just selling the RB setup and dumping money made into my fastback...
but i am also still toying with the idea of keeping it and building it for a second car. decisions decisions... |

i'd say keep the RB and mod it. you wont even have to touch the block to make more power than that current torqueless SR, not to mention there is no replacement for displacement- 6 cylinders is better than 4. you said money and time are of no matter, therefore why not go with the RB? you already had a second daily. another reason to go RB. plus you got it all for damn near free, and you have the main expensive/rarest parts already in your hand (greddy IM, tranny, ecu) you can get a pre-spliced RB-KA harness from Syko or Mckinney. along with the motor mounts/tranny mounts/drive shaft. and there you go! only you'd need after that is a radiator, koyo FTW! you can find stock RB manifolds from someone else's old swap and get a T28 or even a Hoslet HX30/35 for under $300. and it will be shit-tons more fun than what the car is now (and sound amazing).
yes i am RB biased. |

I owned an sr20 s13 and I currently drive a rb20 s13. The rb20 and sr20 are basically neck and neck stock. The RB sounds wayyyyyy better IMO, but is ALOT harder to work on. But if money/time was not an option, I would def. go with the rb25. Rb's sound better, (Again IMO), make decent power stock, and are far more rare. Just my opinion.

i'll buy your RB for the same price you got it =P. But yeah it depends all on your situation. If i was you i would keep the RB and daily the SR and build the RB.

If your rich keep the RB and drop it in. If your not rich sell it. RB's are very nice but there $$$$ no matter which one u get. cams cost more, injectors cost more ect. If you have to rebuild the motor it's going to cost more.

there is no sweeter sound then a straight 6 revving up...and if its turboed then its game over. i have a 2jz'd car for a daily and i cant stand driving 4 cyl cars anymore. the lack of torque is killing me.
i say do the RB swap. sell your SR. you can get good money for the SR and the RB swap is not that bad. even the wiring. if time and the car being out of commission is not an issue then do the RB

either stick with the SR or do the RB. if anything finish the sr powered car to your liking and then sell it to do the RB swap. i still say go with the RB but then again im a little biased by the straight 6 gods
